Presbyterian Churc Nestleton Presbyterian 146th Anniversary Service On a beautiful Autumn morning, Sept. 29, 1991, the 146th anniversary of Nestleton Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. was well attended. A good number attended at the Latch- oy Hall last Wednesday Sept. O' Canada was sung, accom- panied by Edna Beckett at the piano. Our new president, Gord Prentice, welcomed the members and we also had one new member. Mary Cannon read the minutes of the previ- ous meeting and Ann Glidden gave the Treasurer's report. The membership fees are now due and see Clara or Gord to get your card. The dues are now $3 per year. Edna gave the Choir report and will still like to have more members join the choir. The practice is every Wednesday, 12:30 p.m. at the Latcham Centre. Jean has a few tickets left to sell for Geritol Follies and the Races. Geritol Follies is Oct. 1 and the Races Oct. 3. If anyone is interested, call Jean. On Dec. 8 the members will h anniversary well iar old hymns. The Seniors Club Choir of Port Perry rendered two beau- tiful musical numbers "We Shall Behold Him" and "Grant Us Peace" accompanied by Edna Beckett. The Sunday School in charge of Dorothy Lee, also had a few additional children from Bally- duff families and two daugh- ters and their husbands and families of Rev. and Mrs. Fair- ley Rev. Fairley spoke on the many memories the members have of the past 146 years; and _ how we look to the church for support, guidance and direc- tionin all phases of our lives. Flowers in the sanctuary were in memory of Richard Davison and Arnold Taylor. A pot luck luncheon followed the service held in the Sunday School room. Rev. Fairley of- fered the blessing; after thank- ing everyone who attended, to help make it a memorable time of fellowship. Appreciation for the luncheon from the choir was expressed by Roy Grierson, choir member. Rev. Fred Swann and Mrs. Swann dropped in to visit his former charge and see the members and visitors who had attended. Family Activities Sunday dinner guests with Lawrence and Gwen Malcolm of Nestleton were Dennis and Laina Malcolm of Ajax, Jove. Leta and Aric and Laina's mother Mrs. Aleta Jamieson of Missouri, U.S.A. On Tuesday afternoon, friends Christina Henderson, Edinburgh, Scotland, Neta Fish, Cadmus, and Sam and Mabel Cawker, Scugog Pt. Rd., had a very interesting tour of Marilyn Wallace's Art Studio on Scugog Island. Maril showed us step-by-step how she fashions her beautiful, innova- tiver scarves. Her silks are pur- chased in China. She worked quickly and skillfully, in color- ing a scarf an attractive, har- monizing shades, and the re- sult was incredible! What an ambitious program Marilyn has with plenty of energy and enthusiasm! After this learning experience, we enjoyed Russian Tea and tasty cookies. Our warmest thanks to Marilyn for a pleasant afternoon. To wind down a good day we had dinner at Haugen's Restau- rant before returning to home base. Sorry, Edda Bowman was unable to attend. Friend Christina Henderson has now returned home to bon- nie Scotland, and we'll miss her very much. However, she will be pack again soon we trust, and our best wishes go along with her! U.C.W. Sunday at Nestleton United Church With a good attendance, the U.C.W. Sunday, 1991 was held be going to the People's Church in Toronto to see the Living Xmas Tree. There will be tick- ets available at the next meet- ing. Also Dec. 4 is the deadline for tickets to Florida this win- ter. Also there is a dinner and theatre in Lindsay in Novem- ber but 35 people have to at- tend in order to hire a bus. If anyone is interested phone Jim so he can make the arrange- ments. Stan Rickard showed a film on "Fraud and Other Con Games" on Seniors so members Beware. The next meeting is Oct. 9 followed by a Pot Luck Dinner with entertainment by the Scu- gog Christian Church. The Lucky Draw people were Mar- guerite Lewis, Velma Gia- ninne, Syd Combden, Jim Red- man and Elsie Forbes. A reminder, plan to attend the fall Bazaar Oct. 26 at Latcham Hall. The meeting closed with prayer and tea was served. attended at Nestleton United Church with president Arlene Malcolm and vice president Karen Yel- lowlees conducting the service, with Gwen Malcolm at the or- gan. Carol Mairs led the chil- dren's theme with a fine story, much to the enjoyment of the small fry. Rebecca Helsdon, the soloist, sang" Raining in the In- side" accompanying herself on the piano. Scripture from Luke 8:1-4 was read by Bernice Mairs. The message "Stories of Jour- ney" was taken by Arlene Mal- colm and Karen Yellowlees with assistance from several readers of the U.C.W. Marion Hall, Neta Fish, Kathy Tro- mans, Kay Notman, and the hymn "Women of the Bible" was sung. Karen closed the service with Proves for the Journey". Offering was received by Ina Davis and Carol Hill, Flowers were placed in the church sanctuary by the U.C.W. in memory of a fine U.C.W. worker, Leona Sadler who passed awaty in October of 1990.
