We would like to extend a special welcome to some new families with students at our school. We welcome the Brower and DeKoning families, with their children Leah and David, and we also welcome Celine Batterink, Sharon Hall and Mark McDer- mott to Kindergarten, and Lee Thompson and Lee Slute in the upper grades. A special welcome to Mrs. Elizabeth Steele, who has been hired as our "principal relief' teacher. Mrs. Steele will be teaching Bible and geography on Monday and Wednesday after- noons in the Grade seven & eight classroom. We are happy that you have joined our school family and hope that you feel at home quickly. The Kindergarten/Grade one class is going well with many new lessons and routines learned. The Kindergartens enjoyed making and sharing some homemade ap- plesauce and biscuits for the let- ters 'a' and 'b" learned that week. The upcoming week holds the letters "c, dand e." The class talked about the creation of the world and Adam and Eve in Bible this week; as well, they had memory work to learn. Grades two and three are settl- ing into routines. In social studies, the class is doing a unit on Explor- ing Our Community, and have made tours to different businesses and places in town. Last week, Miss Kolkman held an evening meeting with the parents of the Grades one and two children to discuss reading strategies. The children are strongly encouraged to do extra reading every night. Grades four, five and six are go- ing very well with everyone ad- justing to the daily routine. They began their new readers, and have already had a spelling and social studies test. In Bible, the class is looking at God's faithfulness to His people. Grades seven and eight are already into "Feudal Europe' in social studies, as they begin a study of life in a medieval castle. And a class trip is in the works, to FairGlen. Again this year, chapel is scheduled for Friday mornings from 9-9:45 a.m. Parents are more than welcome to join us dur- ing this special time of the week.
