Friday afternoon, and Bob Bryans visited with Nancy Kay Cutara in Riverwood Park, Lindsay. She also spends the winter in their park, Silk Oak Lodge in Clear- water, Florida. Last Monday evening, Octo- ber 7, Elizabeth Peeters and Joyce Kelly co-hosted a bridal shower at the Kelly home in honour of Kim Kendrick, bride-to-be of Russell Weir. Af- ter Kim opened the many beautiful gifts, she replied fit- tingly. A social time was en- joyed over dessert. A lovely supper was enjoyed by Nancy and Bob Bryans with Orlee and Bill Bryans, Fenelon Falls. Later they along with fifteen friends and relatives surprised Peg Shee- hey on her 60th birthday held at the home of her son Glenn and Janet Sheehey and fami- ly. Kelly and Terry Gatchel, Sara and Robert hosted a fam- ily Thanksgiving Dinner with their guests as Harold and Ei- leen McLaughlin, Linda and Roy Bradburn, Matt and Amanda, Janis and Bill St. John, Owen, Courtney and Heather, Port Perry, Helen and Stuart Dorrell, Annie Dor- rell of New Leaskeard. On Sunday afternoon and supper, guests of Nancy and Bob Bryans were Debbie, Leanna and Christina Bryans, Jim and Bernice Bryans, Oshawa and Judy and Doug Bryans, Kyle and Gillian of Zion. Milly and Rolly Coy, Eileen McLaughlin, Connie Swain, Lois Luke and Edith McLaughlin enjoyed a bus' tour to Dollywood, Tennessee, home of Dolly Parton. While there they toured the museum and home with its' many items pertaining to Dolly's career. As one farmer pointed out to me, if Dolly Parton farmed, she'd be flat busted too. The autumn scenery was just breathtaking. The tour includ- ed many points of interest in- cluding the Luray Caverns in Virginia. There were 20 tables for the Anniversary Euchre party with the following prizes - La- dies - Hazel Ormiston, Eileen Warder, Doris Evans, Verna Robinson and low Jean Porrill. Men's - Bruce Ormiston, Regis Hanley, Leslie Flint and Jim Gibson. Low - Ken Flint. Draws - Ann Taylor, Gladys Potts, Neta Fish, Nerta Mas- ters, Mary Poots, Dorothy Beech. Special prizes were won by Charlie Campbell, Grant Bright, Carl Ferguson, Jean Porrill, and Ross McRo- berts. A wonderful time was had by all who attended. Gerald and Joyce Kelly, Elaine and Esther and Francis Peeters attended the special Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Mabel and Doug Smith, in the Fenelon Falls area. This family dinner at- tended by over 40 members of the family was held in honour of Mrs. Alberta Tiers' 90th birthday. O.N.O. Want to test a new recipe - then join the O.N.O. club. These were all sampled and devoured when we held a pot luck dinner at the home of Nancy Bryans last Thursday evening. Following our Secretary's minutes and Treasurer's re- port, old business was straightened up from events held during the summer. Several new items were dis- cussed - For our New Year's Eve dance, tickets will be sold at $30.00 per couple from San- dra Hoskin. - Additional new dishes will be purchased for the Rec Centre to accommo- date 200 people for a banquet. - A brochure will be compiled listing all community organi- zations and a contact person of each to be distributed to all new residents of the area. If you wish to confirm your or- ganization is listed, please contact any O.N.O. member before December 31, 1991. Next meeting will be held the second Thursday of No- vember at the home of Aileen VanCamp. New members are welcome to joint this long- standing Service Club. The Afternoon Unit of the 'U.C.W. met Tuesday, October 8 at the home of Aileen Byers. After an appropriate Thanks- giving Dessert, leader Marion Larmer called the meeting to order. The Roll Call was Call, Sing, Say or Pay produced some interesting replies, but no one had to pay. Dora Mar- tyn's worship was on Giving Thanks. Regional Meetings will be held on October 29 in the eve- ning at St. Mark's Church, Whitby and throughout the day on October 30 at Newton- week event for women will be November 6 & 7 at Odessa Church, Kingston, Ladies 'were reminded to bring toilet- ry articles for Denise House to our next unit meeting. Good used Winter Clothing will be collected in the Church base- ment until the end of October. Next meeting will be No- vember 13 when we will meet at the church to drive to The Christian Blind Mission. Marion Larmer led an inter- esting and thought-provoking discussion on the Women in the United Church Section of our ecumenical study of the Churches in Solidarity with Women and zeroed in on the participation of women in our own church in Blackstock. The meeting concluded with prayer. At the United Church Thanksgiving Service, the Sac- rament of Baptism was con- ducted by Rev. D. Davis when Christopher Andrew Martin, son of Jodie and Andrew Pe- trie was presented for Bap- tism. A wall clock in memory of Dorothy Gibson, given by the Don Gibson family was dedi- cated. Special music was given by both the Junior and Senior Choirs. Rev. D. Davis preached an excellent sermon on the timely subject, "Rejoicing in Hard Times." On the Holiday Weekend, Nancy and Bob Bryans along with her sisters Barb and Vic Hanc & Virg Fairey & Larry Piper enjoyed roasting a pig for about 15 others at Birch Cove Park outside Bobcay- geon.
