On Friday evening, Sam and Mabel Cawker were guests of Alan and Eleanor Cawker of Oshawa -- a birthday dinner to celebrate Sam's big day, Oct. 18, held at Emiel's Place Res- taurant in Port Perry. Merna Cawker was able to join us for coffee. On Saturday evening, 10 church members of the Black- stock-Nestleton charge were delighted to attend Rev. Victor Parson's 60th birthday party in Colborne and had a very en- Jjoyable time! Our very best wishes to those celebrating! The Mairs' Thanksgiving cel- ebration was held at Norm and Bernice Mairs trailer at Fleet- wood Park. A traditional Thanksgiving meal was en- joyed by 10 family members --a festive time for all. Don and Norma Frew, Nes- tleton, hosted Thanksgivin Dinner on Sunday with al family members present -- 22 in all -- a wonderful time for a family get-together. 4-H Club News By Katie Mairs The 4th Blackstock "Milk makes it better" was held Oct. 15, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. We started of with the 4-H pledge, then the roll call answered by one food made with milk that you eat at least once a week. Next we discussed yogurt and how it can be used. After that we went into the kitchen and made 'fruit smoothies", "Lemon Raspberry Mini Cheesecakes" and some homemade butter from whip- ping cream. A film was watched on how cheese was made while we enjoyed our snacks. The next meeting will be Oct. 22 when we will talking about ice cream. Blue Ray Installation With an excellent atten- dance of members, sisters and brothers from other Chapters, the setting for the Open Instal- lation Ceremonies was the Ma- sonic Temple, Port Perry, on Thursday evening, Oct. 10, to honor our newly elected Wor- thy Matron Laura Alton and her corp. of officers for Our Garden of Friendship Year 1991-92. The chapter opened in regu- lar order under the direction of W.M. Elsa Bongard assisted by W.P. Fred Alton. They wel- comed a great many dignitar- ies to the East. After year-end business was completed, the W.M. Elsa and W.P. Fred ex- ressed appreciation to their oyal officers and members for fine support during the Love and Happiness Year 1990-91 -- a very successful year. Installation ceremonies were conducted in a most efficient manner by the Installing Board. Past Grand Matron (a close friend of Laura) Marjorie Morgan, was the Installing Grand Officer. She was assist- ed by P.P, Wilfred Alexander, Installing Champlain D.D.G.M. Jean Simpson, In- stalling Grand Marshal Marg. Jeffrey P.D.D.G.M., Installing Grand Organist Betty Dowden P.D.D.G.M., Floral Ceremony Karel Nottingham P.M. and other Officers assisted in the East. Mrs. Lynda Clements, solo- ist, sang two numbers beauti- fully with Betty Dowdon ac- companying on the organ. The P.D.D.G.M. Pin was presented to Marg. Jeffrey by Elsa Bon- gard and Lynda Clements. Our Chapter is very proud of Marg. Jeffrey! After the ceremonies closed, the newly installed W.M. Lau- ra Alton expressed her thanks to Officers and members of Blue Ray for the honor con- ferred upon her, and the In- stalling Board for the beautiful ceremony. Villa Program The Nestleton U.C.W. mem- bers and husbands planned a lively novelty program and en- tertained the residents of the Villa this past Wednesday af- ternoon. We had a lot of fun putting it on and trust the residents en- joyed our efforts to entertain them. It was topped off with tea and delicious cake, made by one of our good cooks -- many talented folks in Nestle- ton area. Community Church On Sunday Oct. 20, the morning worship service was conducted by Bob Jie. The sermon was preached by Rev. W.H. Crawford, taking his text from John 5:6 -- "Do You Want to Get Well?" -- on the power and authority of Jesus when he prayed for the sick men, In the absence of our organ- ist, the Rev. Crawford played the organ. An average number of people in attendance. Nestleton United Lawrence and Gwen Mal- colm were the greeters at the door, on a cool morning Oct. 20, with many worshippers to the church and Sunday School. The children enjoyed the time -- Peace -- with Rev. Dale Davis, before attending class- es. The choir sang a lively number, "Master of the Sea" with Carol Mairs at the piano. On Peace Sabbath, Rev. Dale Davis based his message on Mark 10: 35-45 and Isaiah 63: 7-12, entitled "Start from Where You're At" with theme "Living the Vision". Kingsley Malcolm was the reader.
