"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 29, 1991 - 35 Country Style Bantams As have tough week The Port Perry Country Style Bantam A's had a tough week, playing four games against top quality opponents. Monday night, Port hosted the Port Hope Redmen in a league game. The locals were sluggish at the start and were behind 2-0 by the midpoint of the game, despite the strong effort of James Paterson between the pipes. Late in the second period Jer- emy Norton showed an agres- sive charge to the net to bangin a rebound and cut the margin. Jeremy Geer and Dave Bour- geois had produced heavy pres- sure and drew assists. Country Style came out and took the play to the Redmen for almost the entire chird period. They were finally rewarded when Joe Broadworth clicked on a set-up by Sean Ellis for the tying goal. At least one crossbar stood between Port and a win as the team finished strongly for the first time this year, but had to settle for the tie. Saturday, Port travelled to Trenton for their first tourna- ment action of the year and met old friends from Cobourg right off the top. Ellis got the team rolling with a long blast in the first 30 seconds, assisted by Broadworth and Scott Heas- man. Broadworth set up Jay Tredway for his first of two late in the period to put Port ahead PPHS sports this week The following is a list of up- coming sporting events at Port Perry High School. Again, Country Style fought back and had a reasonable fin- ish. Although the Tredway, El- lis, Broadworth line combined once more, Jay scoring at 2:42; Port couldn't get the equalizer and went down to a 4-3 defeat. Sean Ellis picked up the player- of-the-game award, playing a strong game and counting two assists. Mike Pashley was solid in the Port net. The afternoon match was played against the Belleville AA squad, who provided an- other highly competitive game. Belleville opened the scoring quickly going up 1-0 at 9:19. Heasman got that back five minutes later, banking one in off the post from the right cir- cle. Port then got burned on a penalty shot, after a defence- man fell on a puck in the crease. Ellis tied the second, combin- ing with linemates Broadworth and Tredway on a fine effort. Just over a minute later Belle- ville went up 3-2 and despite a valiant effort, the last 15 min- utes were scoreless and an- other one goal loss went in the book. Paterson provided an- other in a string of fine net- minding performances for Port and received player-of-the- MoJacks defeat Bruins twice From Page 23 With only four and half min- utes to play, Scott Erickson took a pass from Kevin Bag- shaw and went the length of the ice, deking Harnden and lifting the puck into the upper right side of the net. The MoJacks got on the scoreboard at 15:25 of the first when John Lally scored assist- ed by Jim Vernon. At 10:00 of the first Vernon added his own with assists to Clair Cornish and Brad Menzies. After two losses, game three against host Trenton was played for pride and the Coun- try Style boys made the grade by cutting mistakes to a mini- mum and continuing to put out good efforts. Bourgeois started early, his first of a pair, firing one from the slot after excellent set-ups by Geer and Craig Laird. The score see-sawed back and forth all game until Bourgeois put it on ice with his second, on a nice rush with 1:03 to play. Ellis and Norton drew assists on that one, which made the final score 6-4. In between, Tredway also kicked in with a pair of goals and added an assist. Broad- worth had a goal and an assist, Geer and Jason Phillips had a pair of helpers each. Matt Mor- ris chipped in a goal and Laird counted an assist. Heasman was named player-of-the-game for his strong effort behind the blue line. Hopefully this run of games against quality opposition will go a long way in the develop- ment of the attitude and high level team play necessary to achieve the potential this team represents. afternoon - 50¢ 3:30 to 5:00 pm Public Skating - Wednesday:10 to 11 am Pre-school skating - FREE Thursday: 2:30 to 3:30 pm Preschool and parents through to grandparents anyone welcome for a relaxing 75¢ child; $1.50 per adult; $3.50 per family Saturday: 8:00 to 10:00 am Public Skating - 75¢ child; $1.50 per adult; $3.50 per family Sunday: 2:00 to 4:00 pm Family Skating (adult accompaniment) - prices same as public skating.
