Mildred Lovise Hariney Mildred Louise Hartney passed away at her home in Port Perry on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1991. She was 67. A life-time resident of Dur- ham Region, Louise was born and raised in Oshawa. She was one of the first mem- bers of the Oshawa Little Thea- tre group and worked at CKLB Radio where she hosted a wom- en's program. Her talents included writing and directing both children's and adults' radio dramas and singing with local bands at the Jubilee Pavilion. Louise also performed as a singer with the Moxie Whitney Band. In 1966, Louise moved to Ux- bridge Township where she continued her interest in the "arts by acting and directing plays and writing skits for the Uxbridge Players. ' She also used her talents to coach public speaking at St. Jo- seph's Catholic School and to present puppet shows to stu- dents and children's groups throughout the area. Louise became involved with Scugog Community Care after moving to Port Perry 10 years ago. She averaged about five hours a week assisting Commu- nity Care clients. In her capacity as a volun- teer, Louise delivered Meals on Wheels and provided transpor- tation for doctor appointments or therapy sessions. She also shopped on a weekly basis for several people. Louise also dressed up as Charlie Caplin and Santa Claus on numerous occasions for the Luncheon Date pro- gram. In addition, muffins and fresh fruit often appeared for the enjoyment of the office vol- unteers and staff at Communi- ty Care. The "mystery muffins" as they came to be known, also found their way to the homes of the people she helped. Louise also volunteered at the Community Memorial Hos- pital and Operation Scugog food bank. Because of her outstanding contributions to the communi- ty, Louise was nominated and won the prestigious YMCA Women of Distinction award in the community service catego- ryin 1987. Louise was predeceased by her husband Thomas F. Hart- ney, parents Mildred Mary Wil- kinson and Joseph William Thomson, and by her brother Joseph W. Thomson. Left to mourn her passing are her sister Catherine Mary Hig- gins, aunt Rita Leddy, step- mother Nancy McDougall, stepsister Ann McKinney, step- brother Fred Thomson, many nieces and nephews, and her brother-in-law and sister-in- law Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hart- ney. She will also be lovingly re- membered by her many friends and those whose hearts she touched through her kind and unselfish acts of love. A funeral service was held on October 18, 1991 at St. Grego- ry's Roman Catholic Church in Oshawa, Ontario. A beautiful eulogy was deliv- ered by Louise's cousin Sister Mary Joe Leddy. Pallbearers were Donald Barrett of Oshawa, William ~ Harper of Port Perry, Jack Hartney of Bobcaygeon, Ter- rence Higgins of Mississauga, Gregory Timmins of Pickering, and Donald Ayotte of Port Perry. Springinterment at St. Greg- ory's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Oshawa. Gundry - Wilks Brenda Gundry and Michael Wilks were married on September 7th, 1991 in Port Perry United Church. Rev. Bob Le Page and Father Dick Walsh officiated. Brenda was attended by Chris Horner, Oshawa, Lynda Brandt, Newcastle and Shelley Peirce, Thunder Bay.
