Hy time again to take a look at the changes taking place in the business community throughout Scugog. To this point we’ve primarily addressed ‘what's happening’ in the Port Perry area, but this month we decided to expand our perimeters to see what is going on elsewhere in the township. For starters, about five miles north of town Ryan Haslam has opened the newly renovated Seagrave General Store. The store will feature a large line of food products, dol- lar store items, DVD rentals etc. Great news for the local residents, since the store has been closed for the past couple of years. Across the causeway in Blackstock, Paula Lishman Furs is set to open her new retail studio this Saturday, June 7. The studio is located behind the old schoolhouse at 14341 Old Scugog Rd and will only be open on Saturdays and by appointment during the week. As most know, Paula's fur designs are sought worldwide and were missed after she closed her store on Queen St. jack in town, the space formerly occu- pied by Mango’s at the corner of Water and Casimir St., has a new tenant. Pickles & Olives Bistro opened a few weeks ago serving up ‘mmmmum’ good gourmet pizza, sandwiches and salads. Movement along Queen St. is a little qui- eter this month, although Pamper & Soothe has announced it’s moving a few doors west to 235 Queen St. where it will take up space in Adorn Fine Furnishings Boutique. After a short time closed, Set The Table on Queen St. has re-opened under new own- ership offering many of the same ° food prod- ucts it did under the original Moving along toScugog Street (A Hwy), Global Pet Foods has opened in the space which had been occupied by a variety store some time ago. The new business bills itself as a health food store for pets. Nice to see one empty spot in Port Perry Plaza get filled up. Susanne Schmidt, owner of Healing Points Acupuncture, is moving to the plaza to open in the former storefront operated by Tansi Orthopedics. Skipping back to Queen St., we've learned that Blossom is closing its doors later this month after three years in business. Taking up the vacated space will be Perry Anne’s, who will make the move three doors west of its present location in the near future. And last, but certainly not least, Focus learned at press time that Gus Brown Pontiac- Buick-GMC, of Whitby, took over ownership of Port Perry’s Conlin Pontiac-Buick effective May 27, 2008. “AGING IS AN ACTIVE VERB” 1st Annual Family Fun Walk FUN FOR ALL ACTIVE AGES!
