‘ummertime and the livin’ is easy, that’s unless you’re in the retail business. The past couple of months have been less than kind to local businesses... what with the unpre- dictable weather, layoff announcments at GM and of course the dreaded gas prices which never seem to stop going yy ip. All these things factor into the bot- tom line for retailers and although many are experiencing relatively good sales, it appears some have been struggling. Early into the month we learned that the popular eatery Coffee Cultures, lo- cated at Southgate Mall, underwent a change of ownership. It was nice to see the store remained open, but sorry to see Ryan and John have moved on. If perception is reality, it looks as if Southgate Mall is undergoing a meta- morphosis of sorts. As of press time we see four vacant stores in the mall and are hearing rumours that at least one more may vacate in the near future. Hopefully it is only a rumour. Bounding off to the east end of town, we see local chiropractors Dr. Helen Peel and Dr. Reva Bathie have relo- cated... along with Registered Massage Therapists Robina, Kristi, Becky, and Acupuncturist Suzanne Schmid. All have set up new offices at 1894 Scugog St., in the Port Perry Plaza. With “Pamper & Soothe” now moved into the “Adorn” building, Jill Bradley has opened the second outlet of her popular “Jillian’s At Home” wom- en’s clothing store. The new store, lo- cated at 221 Queen St. will be known as Port Perry’s Lake Winds Spa is having a *exluding RMT massage 25 AEE SERVICES Manicures starting at $26 » Pedicures starting at $41 Facials starting at $63 * Waxing starting at $9 Massages starting at $40 * Swedish Massages: Jillian’s Downtown. Next door we see the “for rent” sign has gone up in the window of “The Genuine Article,” which would indicate a change coming for that location. No further information was available at press time. Further east, in the next block, the store formerly occupied by Perry Ann’s stands empty and ready for a new ten- nant, but as of yet we've not heard who will be taking over this prime down- town location. And finally for this month, a little west of town at 24 Easy Street, Anchor Self Storage held the ‘grand opening’ of its new facility recently. The local stor- age business provides both indoor and outdoor storage with 24 hour surveil- lance. AUGUST.FOOUS.40 Pgsindd 8 © 30 min. ONLY $40 (reg. $48) 60 min. ONLY $75 (reg: $85) 90 min.
