Heritage Night will feature tin Ol sevell Mile Island The spotlight will shine on Scugog’s past on November 19 when the Heritage Scugog Committee hosts an evening dedi- cated to the history of the municipality. ‘he second annual ‘Heritage Scugog Night’ will feature an evening of both celebrating Scugog’s fabled history as well as protecting its heritage for future generations when the gathering gets underway at 7 p.m. As part of the celebration, the municipal heritage committee will present the first-ever ‘Heritage Scugog Awards’ and include a showing of Mark Magro’s documentary on Seven Mile Island, ‘Nonquon Island’. The film about this landmark property pre- miered at the Canoe The Nonquon Film Festival earlier this year. Also highlighting the evening will be a discussion led by Peter Wokral, chairman of the committee. A veteran heritage planner with Markham, Mr. Wokral will provide an overview of heritage registries to explain the finer details of such efforts, which Scugog plans to begin so Participating sites in the recently- -held Doors Open 2008 event will also be recognized throughout the evening, and rounding out the agenda will be a special ‘show and tell’ period for Scugog treasures. Local residents are invited to bring their local gems, which have a historical connection to Scugog lore, to the gathering and give a brief explanation of their importance.
