TOWNSHIP OF Cu | The Township of Scugog updated its Strategic Plan in 2009 in order to provide guidance to Council and Staff on the community priorities for the period 2009-2014. The new plan includes a mission, vision and four new strategic themes as referenced in this report. PRESERVE, PROTECT & ENHANCE OUR ENVIRONMENT e Adopted a new Official Plan based on sustainability principles to guide development over the long-term (20 years). @ Continued to support the Lake Scugog Environmental Plan through road and storm sewer infrastructure improvements at the waterfront including a bioswale and new stormceptors. e Completed naturalization plantings at Birdseye Park, Cartwright Peace Park and the parkland extension behind the Independent Grocery store. e Planted 100 trees at the museum, 25 urban street trees, 18 trees in parks, and nearly 1400 shrubs and perennials along the waterfront. e Implemented further energy saving measures including programmable thermostats in 2 community halls, up-graded fluorescent fixtures in Blackstock Nursery School and Scugog Recreation Centre & Pad |, new furnaces and insulation in works depots and fire hall 2, additional caulking and insulated doors at parks depot, and community halls. Directed that new Library be built to a minimum of silver LEED certification with option for solar panels to reduce operating costs. PROSPEROUS GREENBELT ECONOMY e Partnered with Federal and Provincial governments in a $10.5 M waterfront. revitalization project that includes a major library expansion and renovation, new waterfront trails and boardwalks, additional downtown parking and improvements to the stormwater drainage into the lake. e Facilitated the expansion of the Shopper's Drug Mart business and the opening of the Downtown Farmer’s Market. @ Invested in the historic downtown and the waterfront by acquiring the Old Mill at base of Queen St. @ Secured funding and invested in the renovation and expansion of the Nestleton Community Hall. e Promoted local food at Canada Day, opening of the Heritage Centre and other civic events. @ Supported the Scugog Council for the Arts through the use of office space downtown and marketing opportunities at the Heritage Centre. 4, yi .
