The diamonds are located just north of the Scugog Arena and the damage was the result of a party in which a number of trees were also destroyed. Thanks Heather. Thumbs Down - Seems to be a rash of dog stories lately, but we have to give a thumbs down to the bold and heartless thief who snatched a two year old black and white shih-tzu off the front porch of a home in Canter- bury Common two months ago. The owners are heartbroken and want her back. It's a crime pet owners can't leave their pets safely tied to the house, for fear of them being stolen. Thumbs Up - We were asked to give a thumbs up this month to all the dedicated volunteers who coach our re minor hockey teams - giving countless hours each week to help our youth. Consider it done! But we would be remiss, to not recognize the volunteers of all ama- teur sports, be it baseball, soccer or any other youth sport. Sports couldn't survive without its volunteers! Thumbs Down - Spring seems to always spotlight the worst in people, especially when it comes to litter. And litter © was more than evident this spring along the lakefront pathway behind the ball diamonds. It's disgusting to see how people discard of everything from used diapers and coffee cups, to bait containers, into the lake and along the path. A big thumbs down to the litterers and a suggestion to our town fathers to provide plenty of trash containers. Thumbs Up - to local photographer and Port Perry booster Diane Lackie, who recently had a story about “her g hometown” published in “Our Canada” magazine. The eight page story featured beautiful pictures of the area (all taken by Diane) and a lengthy story about what makes. this town such a great place to live and visit. Kudos to Diane for her promotion of our great community. Thumbs Down - to Bell Canada for the lack of maintenance to many of their brown junction boxes. Around town © we've seen covers laying on the ground exposing wires for weeks on end. This writer went so far as to wrap electrical tape around a cover after calls to the company went unheeded. The damaged boxes do not reflect well on old ‘Ma Bell’ and are an eyesore. Thumbs Up - to the Rotary Club of Port Perry for their recent generous donation of $30,000 to Durham Col- J lege. The money, to be paid over three years, will be used towards a project focused on sustainability in adapting and preparing graduates. Thumbs up to the Rotary for their ongoing committment to the local community.
