Ride for Dad - June 19 While Port Perry won’t be a stop over for this year’s Durham Region Ride For Dad, the annual run which attracts more than 300 motorcycle riders from all over Durham Region will skirt the town and make a stop near Blackstock. The ride is held to bring attention to, and raise funds for, prostate cancer and will be held this year on Satur- day, June 19 starting at 609 Victoria St. in Whitby. run continues north along scenic country roads to Beaverton before returning along Hwy. 12 to Reach St. and into Port Perry. The route then heads south through town on Simcoe St. to Shirley Rd., then east to Blackstock where the riders will make a brief stop at the Asselstine’s Yamaha dealership on Hwy. 57. Following the stopover at Asselstine’s, the run will continue south ending at Durham Honda for lunch and prizes. Anyone interested in taking part in the ride to help raise money for prostate cancer can register Friday, June 18 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. or Saturday, June 19 from 7 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at Durham Honda, 609 Victoria St. East, Whitby or call 905-668-7713. Following the race an awards ceremony takes place with prizes for the various categories being presented. Registration for the event takes place at the Latcham Centre on Friday night from 6 p.m. to 9:00 p.m or on race day, Saturday, June 5 from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Maps for the start can be obtained at the registration desk. Registration is $40 per canoe or kayak, but entrants are encouraged to get sponsors. Prizes are awarded for the entrants who get the most sponsorship money.
