Asoccer celebration of World Cup proportions will take place in downtown Port Perry on Sat- urday, July 10, when the Scugog Soccer Club and local Business Improvement Association team up with the Durham Region Soccer Association for a competitive soccer and family fun day. With the World Cup as a backdrop, the Scugog Soccer Club and the Durham Region Soccer Association (DRSA) are hosting three rounds of the prestigious Ontario Cup tournament July 10 and 11 at the Scugog Soccer Fields. Fourteen of the best female soccer teams from across Ontario, including five from Durham Region will gather for the U16 and U17 divisions. Each team is competing to qualify for the Nation- al Club Championships to be held later this year. As an added feature, in conjunction with the Ontario Cup tournament, members of the Port Perry Celebrate the season by throwing the biggest ire UP your grill for barbecue your family and friends have ever seen. Soccer comes to Port Perry Business Improvement Association (BIA) will bring the soccer celebration downtown, opening their doors under the World Cup country banner of their choice. On July 10, there will be a festival atmosphere for all ages with inter- active soccer activities and live World Cup action. According to DRSA President, Ron Smale, “This is the first time three rounds of Ontario Cup tournament play have been held in one location, a great opportunity to showcase some of the best teams in the province play- ing on some of the premier fields in Durham Region.” The Downtown World Cup Celebration just adds to the excitement taking place in Port Perry throughout the summer and residents of all ages are encouraged to come out to participate. About Ontario Cup - The Ontario Cup is the largest competition of its kind in Canada involving over 650 teams. This Provincial Soccer Club Championship competition begins in May and finishes with the Cup Finals in September, determining a winner within each of the twenty two divisions.
