PREMIER’S INNOVATION AWARDS | Former resident, Dr. Vladimir ser Hachinski, receives $500,000 Premier’s Innovation Award In the February 2010 issue of Focus on Scugog, we introduced our readers to a former graduate of Port Perry High School, Viadimir Hachinski, who has gone on to tremendous success in his career. Dr. Hachinski is recognized as a leading author- ity in the field of dementia and related syndromes such as Alzheimers. In addition he is one of the most widely respected pioneers in the study of stroke. Every year, Ontario recognizes world-class inno- vators who are changing the face of medicine, health technology, cleantech, communications technol- ogy and digital media. On May 18, Premier Dalton McGuinty and Minister John Milloy honoured a remarkable group of Ontarians who are inventing our economic future and shaping our world. Dr. Hachinski, a Professor of Neurology and distinguished university professor at the University of Western Ontario, was one of those honoured, receiving a $500,000 Premier’s Innovation Award in the category of Discovery in the Life Sciences and Medicine for “ground breaking work on the relation- ship between stroke and Alzheimer’s disease”.
