Dozens of people have called our attention to the glaring error on the cover showing “August 2010” instead of the correct date of July 2010. We're embar- rased not to have caught it until after the magazine had gone to press. You can't imagine the helpless feeling of having no way to correct an error before it goes public. So this month we award ourselves a ‘thumbs down’ for poor proofreading. & Thumbs Down - to all of us here at Focus Thumbs Down - we're starting to sound rather nega- tive in this column, but of all the thumbs down recently this one takes the cake. It’s hard to comprehend anyone desecrating a memorial to our fallen soldiers, but even that doesn't appear to be sacred to vandals. At last count the Wagg Funeral Home has had 14 Canadian flags stolen from their tribute to our brave soldiers. Even harder to believe is that four of those were taken on Canada Day... the day this commu- nity paid tribute to our veterans past and present. The shame of it! “p Thumbs Up - to the township's recent decision to restrict an out-of-town fundraising group from soliciting donations on the streets of Port Perry on a regular basis. We are in full support of the efforts of local volunteers who canvas for local groups and agency initiatives, but dislike the idea of shelling out to canvassers paid to solicit funds on our streets. ~ SERVING Scucos SiNcE 1997 MN 4 Wk Kits (reg. 97.00) $10.00OFF © Premium Kits (reg. 140.00) $15.00 off 38 Water St., ; “ A Port Perry Winemaking at its BEST 905-985-1197
