The Rotary Club of Port Perry is ready to make waves again this summer with the return of its annual Aquara- ma event on Lake Scugog, in August. Rotary members have been planning the event for months and reaching out to the community looking for teams to participate and help them raise money for Children’s Charities. The watercraft ride on Lake Scugog takes place Sunday, August 15, in Palmer Park. “We all look forward to this event and taking advan- tage of our beautiful lake to raise money to support chil- dren in need,” says Aquarama co-chair Richard Gauder. “This is a great chance to ride a personal watercraft and be a part of the costumes and the friendly competition.” Participants can take part as a single rider or form a team of five legal-age riders to participate. The public is invited to visit www.aquarama.ca to view photos, video and all the details on how to get involved. The website was designed specially to help promote the event and make it easier for participants to get involved and learn what Aquarama is all about. There you will find the pledge sheet to download. With costumed riders, action shots of riders navigat- ing the course and photos of the fastest teams and best pledge gatherers, there is a lot to see online. And if you participated last year, you just might find yourself among the photos, so be sure to check it out. Also on the website you can see many of the charities Aquarama supports. A tab on the website takes you to a list of more than 20 organizations the funds have sup- ported in 16 years of Aquarama events, and that’s just a snapshot of the many they have supported throughout the years. “We have to thank John Mackey at Port Perry Marina for supporting us again this year with staff time and the machines we ride,” says Mr. Gauder. The event has raised more than $150,000 through- out its 16 years and members want to keep that success rolling in 2010. But your support is needed to make that possible, so visit the website or pick up pledge sheets for you and your team at Sobeys Floral Shop. ‘ i ‘mail i re et ca or call 905-982-0450 ext. 5492. ¥ into problems?
