When Queen Elizabeth II arrived for a ‘state dinner’ in her honour at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto last month, among the invited guests to the dinner was Port Perry resident Don MacLeod. Mr. MacLeod is president of the Ontario Community Newspaper Association and was in- vited to the dinner as a representative of the organization. He was among more than 350 guests given an opportunity to meet the Queen, Prince Philip and Prime Minister Ste- phen Harper during the evening. In recalling the experience Mr. MacLeod said, “It was an honour to be included as a guest and an experience I'll never forget.” With only a couple of more months to go before residents of Scugog Township begin to go to the polls, the interest in seats appears to be heating up. As it stands at press time (July 26) the following are the candidates for the local municipal offices: Mayor - Chuck Mercier and Jim McMillen. Regional Councillor - Bobbie Drew and Donovan Smith. Councillor Ward 1 - Cindy Schut, Dan Worner. Councillor Ward 2 - John Hancock. Councillor Ward 3 - Mike Kapustin. Coun- cillor Ward 4 - David Nicholishen, Tim Hales and Wilma Wotten. Councillor Ward 5 - Howard Danson. Durham District School Bd. - Carolyn Morton and Olga Klymenko. Durham Catholic School Board - Kathy LeFort. The Lake Scugog Lumber Jacks will be hosting the Ontario PeeWee Fastball Finals in Port Perry later this month at the lakefront ball diamonds. Ten teams from across Ontario, from as far away as Ottawa, will pro- vide plenty of great ball for the fans. Anyone wanting to get a glimpse of some of the top talent in the province, including the local Port Perry squad, will not want to miss this exciting weekend. Coach Ian Griffen says, “It’s a special honour for us to host this provincial tournament and I know our team will be playing their best to win it on home turf.” Don’t miss the action, Saturday and Sunday, August 14 and 15, along Port Perry’s beautiful lakefront.
