We are hearing more and more complaints from people who are “ticked-off” about the high cost of park- ing at Port Perry hospital, feeling that $6 to park a vehicle, especially if you’re only going to be inside for a short time, is far too much. One writer goes so far as to suggest if parking was reduced to $2, the hospital would probably make more than by charging $6. The reasoning behind that theo- ry being that people would actually use the facility instead of going elsewhere to park — just sayin’. When you think of “cars and gas,” it just seems those two items belong together — so long as the gas goes in the tank. But there is one situation in which “cars and gas” are not compatible. Example - one of our readers pointed out the gas metre sitting danger- ously unprotected in front of Port Perry Marina, with no barrier to prevent cars from rupturing the pipes. This dangerous situation could be an accident waiting to happen — just saying’. The village of Greenbank and surrounding area came out in force on Friday, July 29th, to help celebrate the community’s 35th annual beef barbecue. The barbecue was started in 1976 as a fundraiser for the Greenbank United Church. Today, 35 years later, not much has changed. Volunteers spend the day cooking up huge hips of beef, donate hundreds of pies and cakes, bake brown beans and serve up a meal fit for the hearti- est appetite. Once again this year, more than 1,100 people came out and lined up with friends, neighbours and family enjoying conversation and often getting reacquainted while they waited for freshly sliced beef right off the barbecue and onto their plates. Jim Thomson, Brian Lee, Terry Till and Lester Baylis, left to right, show off a couple of the large hips of succulent barbecued beef they prepared during the day. Beef sliced right from the hip, baked beans, salads and desserts were served to the large hungry crowd. WORK. Scout XL 4 seater § PLAY. Scout @ 92 seater sy =>.
