Clint explains how the final result came about; “In blocking out the painting, I had to change many aspects of the scene: their feath- ers, the light, mist in the background etc. But I did stick closely to the subjects and their setting, tight down to the spike in the one post. My best shot of them was when they were looking at each other but I painted them looking away at something out of the picture. That adds an air of curiosity to the viewer.
