A married man, Leonard Vole, is accused of murdering a rich widow. The prosecuting lawyer sends Vole’s wife, Romaine, to the witness box to testify against him. Romaine all but condemns her husband to his fate, until a mystery woman appears and completely discredits her, thus letting Vole go free. It doesn't end there however, as there are more twists.
