Chicks welcome ‘Patty Cake’ as newest character for Easter Parade The chicks are at it again... that’s the Church Chicks United, a group of about 30 women from the Port Perry United Church who head up the popular Easter Bonnet Contest each year. As they have every year for the past six seasons, the “Bonnet Belles” as they call them- selves, have initiated a new character to join them for their annual spring contest. This year’s new character is “Patty Cake” portrayed by Jodi Janwin. “The best way to describe her is scrumptious... she’s really Scugog’s own Mary Poppins, but with a few more spoons full of sugar,” Pam Hollett says, explaining Jodi will be wearing a bonnet cre- ated by Cakes By Stephanie. Jodi, dressed as Patty Cake, joins veteran characters; Bo Peep (Pam Hollett), Miss Muffet (Gill McMullen), Mary Mary Quite Contrary (Cathy Pavlik-Griffen), The Mature Woman Who Lives in a Shoe (Sharon Lauricella), and Red Riding Hood (Brooke Dunn). Easter Sunday arrives about three weeks ear- lier this year than last, so the organizers of the 6th annual Easter Bonnet Contest are hoping for an early spring. The event takes place on Sunday, April 5, beginning at 12 noon in front of the post office, Port Perry.
