Purple Woods new Heritage Hall will be open for ‘Maple Syrup Festival’ Purple Woods Conservation Area, located just south of Port Perry on the Scugog /Oshawa boundary, has undergone a face lift over the past six months. Most no- tably was the removal of the popular viewing platform - which has been replaced by a permanent heritage hall. The Purple Woods Heritage Hall, on which construc- tion began last fall, is a permanent year round facility that includes a 4,500 square foot building, built in the spirit of southern Ontario’s rural heritage. The hall will provide a central gathering location for the thousands of people who visit Purple Woods throughout the year. Some of the features of this new facility include a kitchen, a gathering hall for programs to accommodate up to 250 visitors, washrooms, retail and meeting space, and a 240 car parking lot. In addition to the building features, the project will also provide enhancements to the existing maple syrup production facility improving efficiencies, capacity and production levels. Work will also take place to upgrade existing trails for public use and address accessibility issues currently faced by visitors. Visitors to Purple Woods this spring will still be able to enjoy a leisure half mile stroll through the bush to the sugar shack, where you can watch sap being boiled into maple syrup, peek into sap buckets, and purchase some of the maple syrup products on sale. The 37th Annual Maple Syrup Festival takes place daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during March Break (March 10 to 18), and March 24, 25, 31 and April 1 weekends.
