Excessive noise not necessary To the editor This letter is with regards to the truck drivers who go through our town with their jake/ engine brakes on. It is loud, obnoxious and completely unnecessary. I live in the north end of town off Simcoe Street, just south of where 80km becomes 50km per hour. Many drivers continue their 80km speed well into the 50km zone, including several truckers, who then begin braking and let off their crude noise. This goes on at all hours. It has been a rude wake up call sometimes as early as 5am. Ihave noticed from other readers in various publica- tions that I am not the only one who feels this is a noise pollution problem. I also hold a DZ licence (good for driving a dump truck or like vehicle if I choose) so I know that it is not necessary. This is not an anti-trucking opinion. Scugog as we all know, thrives in a big part on agriculture and therefore, the community needs trucking. There are regular noisemakers. (You can clearly see the business name on the sides of the trucks as they go by.) This is simply a request to be considerate in residental areas, and that means slowing down and braking before you get into a residental area, not as you get to them. Their braking means that they are still speeding into the 50km zone. Perhaps we should address this with a bylaw prohibiting the use of engine brakes in town.
