APRIL 2012.2 finalindd 6 Ma illlo Dear Focus... John put a smile on her face Dear Edtior: I wanted to send a “Thumbs Up” to John, who works at the Port Perry Imaging Clinic. This kind gentleman, who is a grandfather himself and no doubt has a busy job in maintenance at the clinic, took it upon himself to keep an eye on my active soon-to-be-four-year old daughter Isabelle, when I had to unexpectedly leave her sitting in the hallway waiting while I went into a room for an x-ray. Thad forgotten that children could not come in due to the radiation. John magically produced not one, but two lollipops out of his pocket and took her by the hand and gave her a tour of the facility! She had a big smile on her face the whole way home, as did I, thinking about how happy I was that we were raising our daughter in a town like Port Perry, where good, old-fashioned values are alive and wel Thumbs up to you, John, and to all the friendly staff at the Port Perry Imaging Clinic! Anne Virta Scugog Island Cowbells make the kids feel good Dear Editor: lam responding to a comment that was published in the March issue of Focus on Scugog. As one of the original cowbell moms, I took offense to the “Thumbs own”. The cowbells were purchased for myself and another mom by our sons, to make them feel better when they were having a rough run in hockey. The cowbells cheered them up and motivated them. Their team went on to play for the first place spot last year. As for “many parents are upset by it” comment — would these parents include the 10-15 parents that went out and purchased their own cowbells? The cowbells are not rung for one individual player they are rung for all of the players between the four teams. I don’t think any ‘one’ person has the right to take the pride and accomplishment away from any of these hard working 10 year-old hockey players when they deserve to have these bells rang for them. When your issue came out there was an amazing amount of support in regards to the parents with the cowbells as they were all out for both the games follow- ing this article cheering on all the kids and that is what this should be about.
