Mailbox Response good to article Dear Editor, I would like to thank you for writing an article about my invention The Bite N Lite Tip-Up. I've received a large volume of text messages and email’s from family, neighbours, and members of our commu- ni Dave at Causeway Live Baits had a considerable spike in sales within the days following the release of your magazine. Your magazine does a good job or reaching out to all corners of Scugog Township. John Galbraith Port Perry Thumbs Down to Focus Dear Editor: I was disappointed to read the March issue of Focus on Scugog and see that my fave section-- ‘Thumbs Up/ Down’ --threw support behind a letter complaining about ‘rude’ bell ringing parents at local hockey games. which slammed those who dare to ring their bells during hockey games was based on one individual's discontent, not fact. The ‘thumbs down’ knocked responsible, hard-working people who choose to ring at games and who are known for contributing positively in our community. I have no problem with this reader’s opinion going to print. But positioning this as a header for the ‘Thumbs Up/ Down’ section, placing it in this section at all, earns you a‘thumbs down’ from me. I'ma proud bell-ringing mom who has child play- ing house league hockey. I have a three inch diameter red-painted ‘cowbell’. These sport cowbells — not ‘school bells’ - are sold in most sporting goods stores in the “hockey rah-rah” section. The bells are just another part of the cheering of the crowd: rung when a goal is scored, a goal prevented, or a nice play is made. No one is auditioning for a beer commercial. The truth is, its the kids who love it when they hear the cheers and yes, the bells from the stands. As a relatively ‘new’ facility, Scugog arena offers guests the option of warm viewing areas for watching the action, away from the clammer of the stands if the noise inside is unacceptable for you. Prohibiting and policing the use of cowbells during games in community arenas, just doesn’t seem like a very friendly ‘hockey town’ way to be. I continue to be a fan of the editorial positioning and articles presented in your magazine. But please ask that you consider all sides before weighing in with those influential thumbs of yours!
