She suggests that “perhaps the perpetrator needed wood to make a dog house”. Thumbs Down - Speaking of signs, another reader asks us to give a ‘huge thumbs down’ to people who use light posts and mailboxes to post adver- tising signs. She questions why they are allowed to leave them up so long and wonders why they are not fined if they've been up more than three days past the event. Maybe they were fined — we just don’t know!!! Thumbs Up - to Scugog’s roads department for getting an early start on cleaning the street of sand and ey salt that has accumulated over the winter months. Almost two weeks before Spring officially arrived the sweepers were out cleaning the roads. Now, we just hope they don’t have to lay down another layer of sand before the really, really good weather comes along and have to do it all over again. Fingers crossed!!! Thumbs Up - to Fire Chief Richard Miller for making it abundantly clear to Scugog council that the fire 3g department should not only continue to rescue people who have fallen through the ice on Lake Scugog, but that it is part of their job and his crews are well trained for these rescue situations. Obviously costs and risks are a concer for the township, but no matter how stupid someone might have acted, their safety and lives are not something to bargain with. Thumbs Down - to the township for not repairing or re- placing the bridge that crosses the Nonquon River Dao the 8th Line. We estimate it’s been more than three years since it was closed to traffic and there are no signs that any work will be undertaken in the near future. We understand that money is tight and millions of dollars are needed to upgrade Scugog roads, but surely it shouldn’t take this long to fix a bridge. Thumbs Up - from our vantage point here at Focus on Scugog, our location provides us with good view 3g of the south side of the buildings along Queen St. As the seasons roll along, one tenant - above Dana’s Goldsmithing - decks out her staircase and apartment entrance for almost every holiday. Right now we are looking at the ‘greens’ of St. Patrick's Day. So a big “Thumbs Up’ to our creative neighbour who brings a smile to our faces - season by season. | | os APRIL 201292 natinga 22 120949 999 aM | |
