Now onto seven It's sometimes difficult for us here at Focus on Scugog to realize that with the issue now held in your hands — Scugog’s favourite little magazine begins its 7th year of publication. While six years is certainly not a “chest-thumping” milestone, it's worthy of mention because it has only been possible due to the dedication of our small staff, contributors, and the unconditional support of our advertisers. Looking back at the first issue of Focus on Scugog, published in April 2006, among the articles featured were these: Scugog Memorial Library celebrated its 150th Anniversary; Walmart had started plans to build a store west of town; Sunleite Integrative Health Centre opened its doors; Lake Scugog shed its coat of ice on April 3rd, and the Scugog Chamber of Commerce can- celled Festival Days. How quickly time flies by! Looking back is always enjoyable and we do a lot of that in Focus. And even though the stories from our first issue are now history — and the articles and features in this current issue will soon become history - it really is the future that’s most important to us. With that said, we’d just like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement over the past 72 issues of Focus on Scugog and let you know that we look ahead to many more years of service to this great community of ours. APRIL 2012.82 finalindd 2 Animal shelter launches website Dear Editor The new Animal Shelter for Uxbridge Scugog would like to inform your readers of the launch of a new website, www.animal-shelter.ca, and the plans for a com- munity fundraising dinner to be held this spring. Both the website and the dinner will offer the resi- dents of Scugog and Uxbridge forums to learn more about the new shelter initiative as well as opportunities for the public to become actively involved in the devel- opment of a new animal shelter. The Board of Directors for the New Animal Shelter for Uxbridge- Scugog has been formed in response to the increasing needs of Scugog and Uxbridge Town- ships and to the deteriorating state of the current shel- ter building. While there have been hundreds of hours spent in planning, the community has had limited opportunity to learn about the board and its initiative. The website has been designed to change that, offering an intro- duction to the board and its goals, a place to track its progress and learn more about how to get involved in making the dream of a new shelter a reality. The first major fundraising event will be held May 5th, at the rustic and beautiful chalet at Skyloft Ski Resort, which will host the fundraising dinner, and in- clude entertainment, silent auction and an exciting live auction.
