New to the community, Scotiabank will hold the grand opening of their facility in the SmartCentres plaza on Saturday, May 26. SUBS FOR SENIORS Spiros and Dimos Vovos, owners of Mr. Sub, Port Perry are at it again this year. The fellas are holding their 4th annual ‘Subs for Seniors’ day on Friday, June ‘st. Mr. Sub donates a percentage of the price of every sub sandwich purchased to the Scugog Community Nurs- ing Home. MAY 64 FINAL FINAL.indd 44 Annual Wielinga Yard Sale raises funds for Sick Kids On Saturday, May 12, Henry and Linda Wielinga will be hosting their 7th annual Yard Sale in support of Sick Kids Foundation, and specifically the David Wiel- inga Memorial Fund in support of Rhabdomyosarcoma Research. The Wielinga’s son David lived with this rare form of cancer until his passing in 2006. Following David's death, and each year since, the family has organized a yard sale to raise funds for much needed research for this rare strain of cancer. Since this time many thousands of dollars have been sent to Sick Kids, and it is making a difference. At the yard sale there are no prices on any of the items, although donations for the items is much appre- ciated, since all of the proceeds will be donated to Sick Kid's Foundation. Every year, the family looks for donations from the generosity of the community and are, as in past years, requesting that anyone who has something they can donate to the yard sale to contact them at 905-985-6715 to make arrangements for drop off. If you don’t have anything to donate, you can still help by coming to the yard sale on May 12 and pur- chasing something. This important fundraising event will be held at the Wielinga’s home at 2903 Pine Point Rd., Scugog Island. Registration takes place at the Latcham Cen- tre, Port Perry on Friday, June 1 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 2 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. There is a registration fee of $45 per canoe or kayak and participants are encouraged to seek additional pledge money from friends and family. Prizes will be awarded to the participants who raise the three high- est pledge totals.
