Building water tanks for the world Most people seldom venture into the industrial areas northwest of Port Perry, but those who do will discover some very interesting businesses, constantly reconfirming that Scugog is extremely diverse. One of these businesses, Metal Man Manufactur- ing, is a fabricating shop which specializes in water treatment equipment. Before I visited John McPherson’s factory I imag- ined a facility full of water treatment products, simi- lar to the one in my basement, so you can imagine the surprise I received when confronted with huge 20x10 metre tanks, made right here in Port Perry. John is the kind of guy who has no problem get- ting his hands dirty. He started the business 20 years ago, as a result of his love for building off-road race cars. He was working in the aerospace industry, but due to layoffs, decided to venture out on his own — and he has never looked back. His company manufactures massive sewage and drinking water tanks, mostly made from stainless steel.
