Mlailloox Dear Focus... & Enjoyed story about ‘Spinach Guy’ Hello, Just a short note to let you know that I really enjoyed “The Spinach Guy” story featured in the April issue. Kudos to Marjorie for writing it and I felt she really captured the essence of the family and their journey to the operation of a very unique farm in our community. The article articulated the determination, passion and in- novation of this family’s spinach operation. Good news story about our agriculture community. Well done! Sincerely, Karen Fretz-Hunt Port Perry ‘Surprised’ from page 2 nity Centre, where I had parked, to find an employee of the company standing approximately 15’ from the driver side of my car (my summer toy). He was operat- ing a blower and was blowing sand, small rocks and bits of glass directly at my car. After getting nowhere with the actual company, I went to the township and was informed that there is a “no liability clause” and I would have to deal with my insurance and the sweeping company. l obtained three quotes for damages to my vehicle ranging from $7,000 to $10,000. After several months of back and forth and $5,000 out of pocket, I wrote the township and asked them to take into consideration this incident before hiring this company again. Well, lo and behold, who arrives on the Port Perry streets this year but the same company. I find it difficult to understand why they would be hired again when I understand there are several outstanding complaints lodged against them by members of our town., Bonnie DeCosta Port Pe ‘Church Chicks’ from page 4 hot glue gun and an imagination, there is no stopping them! Having just completed our third year, most of the kinks have been ironed out, but the Chicks will tweak some categories. We welcome the public's comments and suggestions to be emailed to chickbonnets@hotmail. com . Thanks to you Peter and your staff, for your expo- sure and support from the start and thanks to so many of Scugog’s residents who've embraced this event. Cheering and clapping is all that is needed and the players appreciate that. The individuals ringing the bells must be consider- ate of all people, whether it be for those young or old with sensitive hearing and hearing aids. There are many young children watching the games and the loud bell ringing is not good for their hearing. Advising that there is another location where those that do not want to listen to the bells can go, is not fair to those family members that want to watch their children play hockey from the stands. Also, the play- ers like to see their families in the stands and listen to them cheering them on in a respectful manner. For a fact, I have been at the games when the bells have been rung for only one team and at times gotten into a frenzied pitch every time a score is made and if the other team is losing, it demoralizes them. Other players call the bells annoying and distracting. In fact I have been at games where children have been holding on to the bells as they ran up and down the stands ringing the bells the whole time, therefore irritating the other patrons. Those individuals with the bells have also failed to notice the number of people that have made disap- pointed facial expressions at them and then moved to seats further away from them. Unfortunately no mat- ter where you sit in the stands, you cannot escape the sound of the bells. The bottom line is that at the arena the “Patrons Code of Conduct” allows for ALL individuals to enjoy the facility and that ALL patrons respect each other in the use of the facility. So let us ALL go out and enjoy the games and cheer the players in a respectful manner without the bells. Janice Hamilton Port Perry Editor’s Note: Focus on Scugog encourages its readers to write letters to our Mailbox, to express their views and thoughts about subjects of local interest. In the case of the ‘cow bell controversy’ we feel both parties (for and against) have now had an oppor- tunity to express and defend their positions about the use of bells in the arena. This will be the last letter Focus on Scugog will publish on the “cow bell controversy”. We would now encourage the two groups to meet face to face to try and come to a compromise.
