Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medals awarded to local residents Eighteen Scugog Township residents were honoured recently, being named to receive the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal. The commemorative medal was cre- ated to mark celebrations of the 60th an- niversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne as Queen of Canada. Throughout the past year 60,000 Canadians have been recognized for their contributions to their community. Queen’s Jubilee Medals were presented at a ceremony held at the Scugog Com- munity Centre on February 20. Those receiving the awards, nominated by the Township of Scugog were: Paul Arculus, Rodd Foster, Chief Tracy Gauthier, Ellen Greenough, Ted Griffen, Lynn Hodgson, Peter Hvidsten, Ginger Jackson, Joyce Kelly, Marion Lee, Ilean Pugh and Irwin Smith. Nominated by Durham MP Erin O'Toole are: Stewart Bennett, Ivan DeJong, Bill McKee, Jamie Ross, John Wolters, Kathy Dudley. This is the second group of local resi- dents to receive the medal, in honour of Queen Elizabeth’s 60th year on the throne. In June last year, Dr. Tony Brown, Brian Callery, Hazel Coates, Dr. William Co- hoon, Dr. Jack Cottrell, Kent Farndale, Dr. Paul Puckrin and Anne Wright received medals. Other residents of Scugog Township who have received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal include: Nancy Hamer Strahl, Terry Rowland, Mayor Chuck Mercier, Anne Ot- tenbrite, Dave Robinson and Gary Edgar.
