» FELICITY IS A CHARMER Last February, shortly after her 8th birthday, Felicity Killeen headed to the Mastermind store in Oshawa with her mother Amy, to spend some of her birthday money. While there, they were handed an entry form for the “Charm-It” Design a Charm Contest. The salesperson showed Felicity the display of charms and bracelets and she ended up buying a bracelet and a few charms. “We were told if the entry forms were re- turned promptly, we would receive a free charm,” Amy said. And that was all the incentive they needed. Arriving home they got to work on charm de- signs, with Felicity deciding to draw a clover with a ladybug on it. Both are symbols of good luck and both have meaning to the Killeen family. In fact, Felicity’s name actually means “Lucky One”. Returning the entry forms the next day got them each a free charm, but they thought that was the end of the story. However, a couple of months later the family received a call from the U.S. based company. They were told Felicity’s charm was selected from thousands of entries across Canada and the U.S. as one of the top 31 charms. The designs were to be posted on the internet site and the public would vote in order to determine 13 winners. About a month later, word was received that Felic- ity’s “Lucky Clover” design had been chosen as one of the top 13 winners and she received $100 in gift certificates for the Charm-It online store. In addition, $500 was donated in her name to “Art Start”, a charity in New York which provides art pro- grams for homeless youth. Felicity even received a per- sonal note from one of the youth that benefitted from the program, which made it so much more real for her. Felicity received news recently that her “Lucky Clo- ver” charm was ready for sales in stores. On the Charm-It site they have posted her design as well as her photo and a Q&A with the designer. charms are available in Canada at Mastermind stores and online.
