NATIONAL DAY OF HONOUR Scugog Township held a ceremony on Friday, May 9 to commemorate the end of Canada’s 12 year war mission in Afghanistan. Canada’s National Day of Honour was held to honour the more than 40,000 Canadian Armed Forces men and women who served overseas, as well as others who contributed to that mission. Held in front of the township office, Mayor Chuck Mercier was among the speakers who recognized the service of Canadian soldiers and those in particular from Durham Region. In attendance was Afghanistan veterans Sergeant Raymond Woodcroft and Vince Tripp. The small gathering of veterans, cadets and family members stood silently for two minutes in recognition of the men and women who fought and the 158 who lost their lives while serving in Canada’s longest war mission. A wreath was laid, for the local Royal Ca- nadian Legion by World War II veteran Doug Franks. Peter Hvidsen FOOT THERAPY may be the answer! Almost all my foot patients undergo a few weeks of foot therapy prior to receiving their custom made gaitscan orthotics. Many patients don’t realize that the foot is one of the more complex parts of the body. It consists of many small bones, ligaments and connective tissues, forming multiple joints that allow complex movements in many directions. The movement of these joints is controlled primarily by the musculature of the lower limbs. Each foot needs to bear the entire weight of the body with each step allowing for obvious injury if the feet are not working optimally. So, it only stands to reason that if the joint tissue of the feet and lower limbs have been compromised that the solution would in part involve therapy to restore range of motion, tissue tone and symmetrical muscular balance. It also stands to reason that we must support these changes with custom made orthotics and motion controlled shoes to avoid re- occurrence of feet and lower limb injuries.
