Paul brings Scugog’s past to life during Cemetery Walks The Lake Scugog Historical Society is gearing up for its extremely popular cemetery walks this fall. Previous years, the LSHS has just organized a single walk in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Prince Albert. Due to the popularity of these events and the extensive history that lies in the cemetery, the LSHS is organizing two separate themed walks this year. The first will take place on September 10 and will focus on the area’s founders and those who have achieved fame and fortune in this community and across our nation. It will draw attention to leaders in business, industry and politics who rest in the cemetery. Did you know that we have a movie star and an NHL all-star player in our cemetery, as well as leaders of industry, commerce and the military? These per- sonalities will be the subjects of the first walk which is entitled, “Founders, Fame and Fortune.” The second tour will take place on Wednesday October 1 in the lead up to Halloween and is entitled “Misfortune, Mysteries and Murder” and, as its title suggests, will concentrate on those who lie in the cemetery that have played a role in the more unusual and tragic events in our community's history. Yes, there have been several mysterious deaths and at least two cold case murders yet to be solved. The walks begin at the south end of the cemetery at the Barber Street entrance near the United Church at 6:30. They will be led by Paul Arculus, President of the Lake Scugog Historical Society. The walks are leisurely, lasting about an hour and will take place rain or shine. There is no charge for the walks although the hat will be passed around at the conclusion of the walk and all proceeds will be used by the society to support its activities.
