Continued from page 3 Contestants are not judged by their appear- ance alone, Sierra-Skye pointed out. But she is naturally beautiful. At 5’ 3”, she is only 114 Ibs. and her glossy brown hair is long and wavy. When she is wearing her sash and tiara, little girls come up to her and want to have their photograph taken together. “They think I am a princess,” says Sierra-Skye, with a smile. One of her favourite long gowns is a pretty pink number with silver sequins. The other is a strapless glittery green dress. She currently holds the title of Miss Ambas- sador 2014 in the Petite Category, as well as Miss Toronto in the Petite Category. She placed in the top 10 overall in the Miss Canada Globe Pageant, which had 90 contestants, divided into three categories, with 30 in each group. The competition was staged in the beautiful ballroom at the Don Valley Hotel. “My mom started to cry when I was crowned,” Sierra-Skye recalls. She commented that the sup- port of her family and friends has been crucial to her success. One of her sisters raised $700 by hold- ing a fundraiser to help sponsor her entry into the pageant. Other relatives and her dad’s band, the Mississaugaus of Scugog Island, all chipped in. Princess dresses aside, Sierra-Skye takes her re- sponsibility as a role model seriously. Recently, she manned a booth at a Crime Awareness event in Toronto. This gave her an opportunity to promote the charity Youth Without Shelter, which helps young people who are homeless and at risk. On her table there was a donation box for this charity, and a sign-up sheet for future Miss Canada Globe Productions pageants. Modestly, she explains that she is using her new “status” in her quest to help others. This fits in perfectly with her long-term career plans. “I want to become a child psychologist,” she stated. “Everyone goes through difficulty, and they need coping methods other than drugs and alcohol. I want to help.” Please turn to page 6 MOVIES ~ MOVIES ~ MOVIES Can't Find It? Special Order It! Gift Certificates Available VIDE@PLEX 68 Water Street 905-985-8807 Sierra-Skye Ashkewe.
