8th annual “Sports Hall of Fame” induction ceremony a smash hit Acrowd of well more than 200 took in this year’s festivities as the latest round of inductees to the Scugog Sports Hall of Fame were given their due. First to be acknowledged were the up and comers in the world of Port Perry and area sport — Tyler Field, Kristen Welsh, Jonathan Brouse, Jeff St. Pierre, Layne O'Halloran, Kennedy Feasby, Ian Griffin and the Port Perry Lumberjacks, Wells Hick and Melissa Scott were all recognized for their sporting contributions. Nice touch giving props to the next wave. What really stood out was the wide array of sports being represented proving that the area is definitely not a one or two-sport concern. MC Jordan Mercier handled things with his usual aplomb. Guest speaker Gord Stellick regaled folks with some funny and inside looks at the Toronto Maple Leaf organization, including a few Harold Ballard stories that had folks laughing. Mr. Stellick was engaging and showed why he really is a people person at heart. “This was fun. You have a great tradition of sport in the area and it’s good to acknowledge the contributions these people have made. They should be celebrated for their accomplishments”, offered the guest spe: Inductees Clair Cornish, Carol Jackson, Murray Parlia- ment and Wayne Venning, on behalf of the 1972-73 Beare Motors team, all gave impassioned speeches on why and how they got to this place. A special 40th anniversary tation was made to the Wado Kai Family Karate people. Nice touch there. The Induction Committee, led by Leanne Ashbridge did another fine job of making the evening a success for all that were honoured or chose to participate. “The com- mittee worked hard at making the evening a success and it showed. Great crowd for the event and we are already gearing up for 2015”, offered Ms. Ashbridge. Another special treat was being able to go up to the hall and see the incredible hockey collection now on display. Doug McClatchey’s presentation is a must see for anyone remotely interested in hockey. It is a veritable trip down memory lane and well worth the price of admission. The other thing that resonates when you go in to the i ‘adition a ee enone ations to all the inductees and here’s looking scant nee eperrmcacecteeraamacensemic of Fame will add a few more worthy candidates.
