Y Port Perry Yeh Pictured, above right, is the former Port Perry Dairy as it looked about 1954. The popular dairy was located at 158 Water Street across from Palmer Park. Standing on the porch in this picture is employee Cora Gerrow. Ms. Gerrow married Irwin Tripp, who operated Tripp's Garage which was next door, in the building now occupied by Harp & Wylie’s restaurant. In 1988, the Dairy Bar building was completely renovated and refurbished to become the home of Port Perry Pizza Delight. Pizza Delight was owned and operated by Don and Judy Mitchell and opened in March 1988. The restaurant operated for 10 years before being destroyed by fire in March 2000. After four years of planning, construction began on the attrac- tive new building, left, during 2004. It was completed in the spring of 2005 with retail stores on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floor. The commercial space is now leased by Branching Out, a floral and gift shop. Lake Scugog Lumber Co. Ltd. operated from the above location on Lake Scugog’s waterfront from the 1930s until 1972, when the company moved to its present location south of town on Vanedward Drive. After moving, the 2.4 acre property was purchased by local businessman Ken Jackson, who secured the valuable lakefront property until the municipality could afford to pur- chase it. He sold it to them in 1979 for $155,000. The Township removed the old Lake Scugog Lumber buildings and constructed the Scugog Memorial Public Library in 1982. A large addition was added to the library in 2012. 18 FOCUS - JANUARY 2015
