The local recipients were presented the 2014 Durham Art of Transition Creative Award. Kent Farndale was presented the “Lifetime Achievement Award”. This honour is presented to an individual or organization that has shown volun- teer work, outstanding artistic excellence, or commit- ment to public awareness of art and culture during the span of their career. Kent is a lifelong resident of Port Perry, has spent a large part of her life promot- ing and supporting the arts in Scugog Township. Three local women, Jennifer Hardie, Birgitta MacLeod and Bonnie Thompson were awarded the “The Cultural Champion in Business Award”. Their business, Meta4 Contemporary Craft Gallery in Port Perry was recognized as a business that champi- ons art and culture through employee engagement programs, display and promotion of local artists and artwork, or other creative partnerships that enhance the local creative economy. Carey Nicholson, who is known throughout Durham Region for her dedication to theatre, was recipient of the “Theatre Award”. The award is pre- sented for outstanding acting, directing, playwriting, or technical production (i.e. lighting, sound, cos- tume design, etc.) in a theatrical production. Carey’s efforts are currently focused towards her newly formed company Theatre 3x60. The awards were presented at a special ceremony in Whitby on November 27, 2104.
