The Historic Plaque program, which provides a brief history of downtown Port Perry’s heritage structures, was initiated by the Scugog Heritage and Museum Committee about a year ago. Over this past winter, with the help of local histo- rian Paul Arculus and members of the Heritage Com- mittee, the history of the buildings were researched, pictures secured and the plaques were designed. For continuity, the new heritage plaque design mirrors the larger plaques, which have been in place throughout Palmer Park and on Queen St., for the past couple of years. The committee called on graphic artist Arlene Walker, designer of the original plaques, to finalize a similar layout for the smaller plaques. The results are now evident in front of 10 build- ings along Queen St. The Heritage Committee has committed to placing a further 10 plaques next year and would eventually like to see all of the heritage buildings in the down- town plaqued over the next few years.
