Rotary Club ready to hit the waves for 201 | Aquarama Imagine watching members of your community dressed in costume, whizzing through the water of Lake Scugog to raise money for kids in need. That's just what you'll see at Palmer Park on August 21 as the Rotary Club of Port Perry hosts its 18th annual “Aquarama for Children’s Charities”. This popular and entertaining event pits novice and experienced riders against the clock on personal watercrafts to raise money for disabled and underprivileged kids, The Rotary Club is still welcoming participants to sign up as a single rider, or to form a team of five legal-age riders. “We're calling on the community to get involved in this exciting summer event,” said Steve Gajewski, chair of this year’s Rotary Aquarama. “This event is a terrific way to help underprivileged kids while enjoying a fun day on the water.” No watercraft experience is necessary to participate, and watercrafts are gener- ously donated by John Makey, owner of Port Perry Marina. In addition to raising money for a great cause, participants are awarded prizes for a variety of categories including fastest time, most unusual ride and most amus- ing costume. “It's the community that makes this event such a huge success,” said Steve. “It’s fun to see people, from business owners to students, dress up in costume and take the odd unexpected swim in the lake for a good cause.” e event has now raised more than $150,000 for local and international chil- dren’s charities and the Rotary Club hopes to keep that success rolling this year. Riders can download registration and pledge forms online at www.aquarama. ca. Forms can also be picked up at Taylor Forder Insurance, behind the CIBC Bank.
