Smiles (continued from page 47) behind the project to build a play- ground for Olivia and her brother and friends to enjoy. His cousin Anna Lopes, who he refers to as a “super- star,” is the founder and director of Million Dollar Smiles. The mandate of this charity is to provide backyard playgrounds for children with cancer who are sometimes not afforded the luxury of playing in public parks. Volunteers are the backbone of the organization and they are rightfully called “Smile Angels.” The first contact that Smile Angel Rosario made with Olivia was just before last Christmas. What a big surprise it was when a giant, cuddly four-foot tall Teddy Bear with a yel- low Million Dollar Smiles t-shirt was delivered to the Worr’s house. There was also a $100. Toys”R” Us gift card. “We got toys for Ryker too,” Olivia says happily. Rosario is certainly the perfect example of a Smile Angel. Meeting Olivia for the first time, he said, “What an amazing kid. How could you not want to help her?” 48 FOCUS - JULY 2015 Fundraising is ongoing to reach the $2,500 goal. This includes a de- luxe playground kit, which is ready to build, a special raved medal for the Million Dollar Smiles child, 20 t-shirts with the sponsor logo on the back, a continental breakfast, pizza lunch and drinks for the construction crew, and a celebration cake. “It’s so nice of them to do this for Olivia,” said Grandma Gladys. What a wonderful way to surprise a local little girl who already has a million dollar smile...
