Prior to Christmas, the boys played Pick- ering at home and after a slow start, rebounded back and came up short by one goal, losing 5-4. The gamesheet looked like it _went through the zamboni, but we could tell that Tim Fitzpa- trick had an excellent night, picking up a hat trick and it ap+ peared as though Brad Morton \ may have got the other goal. As-" sists went to Daryl McEnaney with two, Casey Van Schagen, Kevin Hobbs, Jason Logan, Matt Phillips and Chris Drury. Then on Dec. 22, we headed for an afternoon game -in Lindsay and the boys must have had "vi- sions of sugarplums dancing in their heads" as they dropped a 5- 2 decision to their opponents. The first period ended on the down side of a 2-0 score and Lind- FORD MERCURY | «OL [A AY \ WINTER VALUES 4 & 6 CYLINDER Electronic Ignition ........ 59.87* V6 & V8 Electronic ignition ........ 65.87" * LABOUR ONLY, parts extra * Vans and Air-conditioned Vehicles extra. Chris Drury took the initial shot and Todd Parry fed the re- bound to Mike, both picking up assists. Lindsay went ahead 4-17/and then Jeff Clarke fed Kevin Hobbs who in turn set it on Jason Lo- -.gan's stick, who wasn't long fir- ing a bullet past the goalie. Unfortunately it ended there for Port, but Lindsay added one more before the final buzzer. Turkey, toys and fun then en- tered the scene for a couple of days, before heading to Bowman- ville for the Christmas tourna- ment. Our first two games resembled that old show, "Lost in Space", as the boys wandered as though they were lost in the space of the arena. The first game was against Whitby and we lost 5-3. Daryl McEnaney started us off only 33 seconds into the game with as- sists to Kevin Hobbs and Jason Logan. Whitby responded only seconds later and made it 2-1 midway in the second. Daryl re- sponded again on a pass from Matt Phillips to tie the score at the end of the second period. The break between the second and third periods must have put our boys to sleep as they let Whit- by walk all over them in the third. Daryl and Todd worked the puck into Lindsay's end at one point and Mike Morden picked it up behind the net, went in front of the goalie and stuffed the puck between the goalie's pads to bring us a little closer, butitended there. Our second game the next day was quite similar, with a final soore of 5-2. Very little checking allowed a Fort Erie team to walk all over us. Once again, Daryl McEnaney started us off early in the first with assists to Kevin Hobbs and . our phantom player #5 according to the game sheet, This only made Fort Erie mad and they re- sponded with four goals. Late in the third Todd Parry fed a pass back to Chris Drury on the point who let a hard shot go, and the goaltender could not con- ' trol it and let a rebound come out "in front. Mike Morden was com- ing in on the left wing and blast- ed a hard wrist shot past the ° goalie to give us our final goal. Our next game was against Pe- terborough early Monday, and things went from bad to worse with a 5-0 loss to Peterborough. The team looked like "Skud Mis- siles" with no definate direction in mind. Missed passes, no pass- es, missed checks and no checks were the story of the game. One thing we found out later was that Peterborough was a "AA" team. 'Come on boys, you can do it. Work hard when you are out there. Give checks and take checks, get your passes on. Pro- tect the front of your net, skate hard and come off when you are tired. Lets get back on the win- ning train. We know you can do it. Pee Wees in Bowmanville We made it to the champion- ship, the "D" championship that is, but none the less it was a game that carried a trophy with it for winning and we were ready. Trenton was the opposition and they had only accumulated a few more points than Port. With minds sharp and clear, bodies tuned to perfection for hard checking, the look of deter- mination in their eyes and their teeth knashing the Legion Pee Wees went into the dressing room but came out and forgot all that. Trenton jumped into a 3-1 lead Hoping for 150-200 riders Lions Club Sno-a-thon slated for February 2 Local snowmobile and Lions Clubs are inviting all snowmobil- ers to take a ride through the Ganaraska Forest to raise mon- ey for charity. The second annual Sno-a- thon, which is organized by local snowmobile clubs including the Port Perry Snowmobile Club, the Cartwright Dynos and the Gana- raska Snowmobile Club and by the Port Perry, Blackstock and Bewdley Lions Clubs, will be held at Ganaraska Forest on Feb. 2beginning at 11 a.m. All snowmobilers with a trail permit and an insured sled are invited to take part in the ride. The ride which is approxi- mately 60 km long covers the loop of the Ganaraska Forest. Riders are to recruit sponsors with the money raised being turned over to the Lions Clubs. The club then distributes the money where it sees the greatest need for it. All money raised stays in the community. 5 Last year's Sno-a-thon raised a little more than $3,000 and orga- nizers are hoping to raise more this year, according to Port Perry Lions Club president Gord Geer. Mr. Geer added that for this year's event, he would like to see 150-200 riders get involved. Interested snowmobilers can pick up sponsor sheets at Assel- stine's, Willy and Son, Michael Baker Automotive or from any Lions Club member. All riders are to report to the Ganaraska Forest Recreation Centre before 11 a.m. the day of the ride. Anyone wishing more informa- tion on the Sno-a-thon may call Gord Geer at 985-9322 or Mike - Baker at 986-0576. Strong deter- mination by Brad Morton al- lowed him to net the black mon- ster, despite severe bouncing around by the Trenton defense. Todd Parry and Jeff Clarke de- serve a lot of credit for bringing the puck down the ice and keep- ing it around the net. The boys worked harder in the second and _ third periods and we saw some 'good checks laid out by Tim Fitz- patrick. This brings an end to the 1991 season and for the most part, we can say the boys played 50/560, winning some, losing some, but always being close. To the boys and families, we hope your Christmas was an ex- ceptionally good one and wish you every success in 1992. To Gary, Ed and families, Mer- ry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank-you for your time and patience, including that of your wives and thank you for the pizza and pop after the game. It was extremely thoughtful. Let's develop a motto for '92 "P.P.P.-Port Pee Wee Power." Pee Wee Legionnaires split series with Uxbridge The Pee Wee Legionaires began a home and home series against the Uxbridge Bruins on Friday night in Port Perry. cr fter some lackluster outings lately, the hometown fans were on the edge of their: seats, hoping that the new year would bring gladder tidings. tt With less than a minute gone the Port Perry forwards barged up the ice and Tim Fitzpatrick's struck pay-dirt on a set-up by Matt Philips and Tom Chambers. Mid-way through the first, Port opened up a two goal lead when Daryl McEnaney scored on a fine unassisted effort. The Legionaires clearly dominated this contest from start to finish. Two more goals in the second and one in the third put the lid on a 5-0 victory. Closing out the scoring were Jeff Clarke, Matt Philips and Fitzpatrick with his second of the night. Assisting on the play were MeEnaney, Chambers, Jason Logan and Philips. Luke Carnaghan earned the shutout with a stellar perfor- mance in net. Although this was not a par- ticularly physical contest, the Legionaires showed tremendous improvement, passes were Crisp, checking tenaceous and "hn found their mark. Act two got underway on Satur- day evening. Port opened the scoring early when Todd Parry slipped one in on a pass from Kevin Hobbs. And here folks is where the wheels fell off and the sleeping Bruins woke up. It was obvious from the outset that they had been told to take the body and they did. All the things that were so sweet the night before for the Legionaires sud- denly turned decidedly sour. As soon as Uxbridge got physical, our guys backed off their game plan, allowing Uxbridge to score seven unanswere goals. Revenge must have been sweet after the pastin than 24 hours earlier.
