Their first game was against Bowman- ville. As seen in previous matches with this team, Port had the potential to lead the way as this game opened up the third period tied at one a piece. But it soon gave way to Bowmanville as they quickly tucked two goals away to earn the win. Our lone marker in this game was by Ian Parliament, Juuassisted. Port's second match-up was with Bradford. This game proved to be very tight as Port was again tied, this time two a piece midway through the third period it was Port who took the initiative and scored the go ahead goal fo give Port a 3-2 win. Leading the way in the scoring department was Scott Sanderson with one goal, two assists. Also scoring was Adam Hobbs and Ryan McQuade with Hobbs and Dave Gainey picking up assists. This win earned Port enough points to place them in the 'B' championship. This game gave the Pineridge boys a second chance against Bowmanville. However, Bowmanville was sharp at every turn, disallowing Port to gain an edge on this team. Port received no breaks as the puck followed Bowmanville's lead as they defeated Port 4-0. On Thursday night the Pineridge boys resumed regular league play and hosted Millbrook. There is always plenty of action when these two teams meet and this night was no exception. Port clearly skated to a victory with no looking back as they lit the scoreboard six times with Millbrook picking up three. Having a good game and leading the way in the scorin department was Chris Jones wi a hat trick. Also scoring was Greg Bruton with one goal, two assists, Dave Gainey one goal, one assist Scott Sanderson one goal an Ryan McQuade two assists. Chambers, Moynes and McCready also Supplied assists from the blue line. Brad Monsma continued to supply offensive action. on Saturday the boys travelled to Manvers for their annual tour- nament. In game one Port was matched up against Lindsay. Port took the lead in this game early with a goal by McQuade assisted by Bruton and Jones. Lindsay came back to tie it up, but not for long as once again Port tucked one away with Nick Pelyk picking up Gainey's rebound. Lindsay became a threat as they tied up the score. Both teams applied pressure with Port Sg ting he scoreboard when McQuade found the mark assisted by Brain. The final score 3-2. Way to go Woodys defeat Blackstock 2-1 in broomball action After a week off for Christmas break it was back to business with B & R vs. Framers being the first up of the day. Willie Edwards from Mike Mole got Swamp off to a 1-0 lead. The game stayed this way until Brian Pomeroy scored twice assisted by Brian Robinson and Dave Canning both times to seal the victory for Swamp. Keith Tremblay recorded the shutout. Monsma Electric Jublicaley the same score against kmmer- son in the second match of the day. Snowy Down got Monsma"s first goal from Perry Mason. Greg Gibson made the score 2-0 from Don Jansma before the first period was over. With only :49 seconds left Mur- ray Down rounded out the scorin from Kevin Ibbitson and Bi Down. Ken Lynde was in net for the shutout. The last game was a real tight checking goaltenders dual bet- ween Rick McClean of Blackstock and Rick Lees of Woodys. Both goalies blanked the shooters as the game ended tied at 0. . In overtime Neil Woodrow gave Woodys a 1-0 lead from Rob Mason and Bruce Woodrow. That lead was short lived as Ron Wagg from Bill Pratt tied it just :15 seconds later. Bruce Woodrow bat Woodys out in front again with the assist go- ing to Neil Woodrow and this is the way it ended a 2-1 Woodys victory. The Port ladies were defeated by Betz Pools of Uxbridge by a 2-1 margin. Janet Joncas scored the lone goal for Port. boys! ort came flying out onto the ice as they were keyed up to play Manvers. Manvers has always proved to be a worthy opponent and Port was fully aware of what was at stake. In all previous mat- ches, Port has always come out on the bottom end of the scoreboard. Port gave it their all.as they went one for one with every member of the Manvers team. Port's best effort ever paid off as they drew blood first when Greg Bruton received a. pass from McQuade and found the mesh. Also assisting was Chris Jones. Both teams supplied Srong defense coverage backing up so goal tending at both ends of the rink. Manvers tied u the ame when the puck deflected into the net late in the second period. The score re-, mained tied while near misses at both ends kept the fans on the edge of their seats. The winnin goal came late in the third peri when a scramble in front of Manvers' net saw a loose puck slide past the goalie with Ryan McQuade notching the point and Moynes picking up the assist. A late game penalty for Port gave Manvers a last attempt to score but Savage was sharp in Port's net and kept the score in Port's favor. This win put Port in the "A" championship game. The stage was set as Minden had earlier put out Deseronto to earn a berth in the championship game. As was evident, with Port the team effort put forth by this well disciplined team was a definite advantage. No one could match the calibre that Port showed as every member of the team gave 100 per cent, 100 per cent of the time. Standout goal tending by Chambers shut down any attempt Minden made to score after allow- ing only one goal. Port's offense returned the fire cashing in with five goals and Port's defense were at their best as they consistently tied up their opponents. Scoring in this game was Adam Hobbs - four goals, Ian Parlia- ment - one goal. Drawing assists McCready - two, Parliament, Sanderson, Gainey and Jones - one a piece. Every member of the Pineridge Sports Atom 'B' team deserves MVP but it was Adam Hobbs who was recognized for his effort and received the honors. Way to go boys!! Et TEE Bantam A team wins tournament From Page 18 angle shot between the goalie's legs for the tie. The teams battled through just over 17 minutes 'without breaking the knot until Broad- worth notched the winner off a crazy bouncer with 1:50 to play. Kearns led a three-man rush out of the Port end and fired a wrist shot from the blue line. The rebound came out to the charging Broadworth who chipped it off a defenceman into the net. Matt Morris, who was originally credited with the goal drew the other assist. Backed by the powerful goal- tending of Pashley, the Coun- try Style crew held on despite some pointed Toro scoring threats. Although this goes in the books as a C championship, the competition in the tourna- ment was very tight as both teams were only two goals from the A division. Port travelled to Lindsay for a rescheduled league game on Thursday night and fell victim to some weak play and weak officiating, dropping a penalty- filled game 4-3 despite a two goal third period comeback that came up short. Ellis, Broadworth and Geer scored the goals, with assists to Tred- way (two), Ellis, Shrigley and Morris. On the weekend the team headed out again, this time to Ernestown to defend their tournament championship from last year. This was a thighly successful venture as Port Perry was again crowned champions. Their first outing was agianst the South Ottawa Capitals. Broadworth had them off and running when he scored early from Tredway and Kerns. The Capitals tied it up, but Shrigley put Port back in front to stay, walking out from the corner. Norton fired a point shot off Geer's pass, then King finished the scoring from Morris and Shrigley to give Port the 4-1 win. Trenton Golden Hawkes were next on the list and they went down 4-2 at the hands of Country Style. Kearns opened the scoring with a breakaway goal in a four-on-four situa- tion. Shirgley, from Norton gave Port a 2-0 lead before the Hawkes capitalized on a couple of miscues to tie the game. Dave Bourgeois, who had an outstanding tourna- ment, then took a heads-up pass from brother Daryl and HERS 7 turned on a great burst of speed tg put Port ahead with a nice deke. Norton polished up with another point blast with :05 to play, assisted by Morris. The Kingston City All- Stars put a hole in Port's record with a tough 2-1 win Saturday" night. The team played well enough to beat this small, hustling team, but were stymied by good goaltending and tough luck in the crease area. Tredway picked up the only goal with a big blast to finish off a nice short-handed rush. This loss wasn't too cost- ly as the two wins and a de- cent goal differential allowed Port move on and eliminate Kingston from further play. The semi-final featured the Markham Thunder, and Phil- lips gave Port the jump, tip- ping in Kearns' goalmouth pass just over a minute into the second period. The Thun- der managed to: tie just a whisker under the buzzer at the end of that same period. Kearns got that right back on a wraparound in the first min- ute of the third, assisted by King. Just 90 seconds iater Dave Bourgeois got an insu- rance marker, assisted by Da- ryl Bourgeois and Norton. King iced it with a wicked blast into the top corner from long range on an end-to-end play with Shrigley and Kearns. Pashley was outstand- ing in the net, particularily while the score was close, to anchor the 4-1 win and send Country Style to the champi- onship against the host Ernes- town team. This final was an exciting, see saw offensive battle that saw Port jump out to a 3-0 lead, Ernestown close to 3-2, and then the team traded goals for a while until Port put away a 9-4 win by outscoring the home team 4-1 in the third period. Dave Bourgeois led the way with another strong game, scoring three times and help- ing out on two others to take away a deserved MVP award. Kearns had a pair of goals and an assist to help the cause. El- lis, Tredway, Phillips and Da- ryl Bourgeois had single coun- " ters, while other assists went to King (three), Geer and Ian McCréady (two each), Tred- «way, Phillips, and Daryl Bour- geois. Paterson supplied his usual strong goaltending for the win. Country Style will entertain Lindsay in a rematch at home Monday night, then travel to Cobourg for an important playoff preview on Tuesday.
