Jim Zoet of PPHS was awarded the MVP trophy at the Markham tournament. In Tyke action the UAW was victorious with a 4-0 score. Fervier, Tremblay, Potts and Bron-,--, son were goal scorers. In other Tyke action the Kinsmen defeated Doupe's Store 2-0. Storry scored both markers for the Kinsmen. The Port Perry girls hockey team lost its first match to Whitby 1-0 but the local team re- mainsin first place. An addition to the Cartwright Recreation Centre is more than half completed. The $25,500-project includes the construction of a washroom, kitchen, cloakroom and council meeting room. The Beare Motors Bantam team defeated Stouffville 3-1. Brian Campbell, Gord Scott and Larry Page were goal scorers. The team then met Newcastle and defeated them by a 4- 1 score. Richard Goris scored two while singles were awarded to Rick Taylor and Jim Phoenix. 15YEARSAGO JANUARY12,1977 The Mersco Novice All Stars defeated Little Britain 2-0 and tied Oshawa 2-2. The Port Perry Novice team won the conso- lation championship in the 16-team Sharon tournament. 10YEARSAGO JANUARY13,1972 The Sportsland Junior ringette team were winners at the recent Whitby tournament de- feating Kingston 7-2 in the championship match. The Pee Wee B squad whipped Uxbridge 11- 0. Scoring for Port was Blair Philips, four, Mike Gibson, two, Jamie Cannon, Tim Allsopp and Brad Traves were credited with singles. The ModJdacks doubled the Little Britain Merchants 6-3 on home ice. Scoring for the lo- cal team were Jamie Bird, two, Dave Canning, Scott Heard, Todd Wilbur, and Brian Mikkle- son. The Legion Pee Wees defeated Uxbridge by a 9-1 score. Karen Kett turned in a strong per- formance as she scored three oals and earned three assists. my Parliament and Jennifer Smith popped in two goals each. Dawn Doucette. Megan Marlowe and Kim Poppleton rounded out the scoring with one goal each. Michelle Fitzpatrick put her red stick to good use providing some very able assistance for Tracy Pelow who turned in a solid per- formance between the pipes. Assists during this game were handed out to Michelle Fitz- atrick, Karen Kett, Dawn Doucette, Amy Parliament, Megan Marlowe and Leea Kinnunen. Port's second game pitted the irls against a determined Scar- rough team. The score read 3-2 in Scarborough's favor until the latter stages of the game when Port Perry exploded to score five additional goals. Amy Parliament blazed a trail in the ice as she flew at the Scarborough netminder to fire in two goals. Jennifer Smith, Dawn Doucette and Megan Marlowe added their singles to the two goals scored by Karen Kett and Jennifer Smith in the first period to bring Port's final tally to seven. Tracy Pelow layed another good game help- ing Port to win by a 7-5 score. Kitchener's Junior AA team provided the opposition for Port's third game. The first period end- ed with Port trailing 3-1 with the lone foal attributed to Jennifer Smith, assisted by Megan Marlowe and Kim bo pleton. However in the ideo period Port Perry went on the offensive, Karen Kett picked up a pass from Dawn Doucette to slip in goal number two. Amy Parliament and Megan Marlowe scored goals three and four respectively on unassisted efforts. With three minutes remainin Port Perry trailed by one goal and despite a concentrated, determin- ed effort the tying goal remained elusive. Tracy Pelow stood tough between the pipes halting Kit- chener's goal total at five, with very capable help from the red stick . Jennifer Morden, Leea Kinnunen and Michelle Fitz- atrick made Kitchener work ard for their goals. Port Perry played their final ame of the tournament on Sun- ay when they once again faced the Kitchener Juniors in the medal round. Jennifer Smith led Port's scoring with three goals. Megan Marlowe scored one goal and assisted on Port's other four goals. Amy Parliament also scored one goal. However, Port Perry's combined efforts were hampered by untimely penalties and the Ivory Forest Juniors had to settle for the silver medal.
