The executive members of the afternoon group of Greenbank U.C.W. met on Thursday at the home of Mrs. Marie Foster. One order of business was to decide on a name for our group. '"The Fidelis Group" was the overall decision. It was also the name of a group years ago. Plans were made for the World Day of Prayer on Mar. 6 to be held in our church with Seagrave ladies joining us in this world wide service. Also this is the 30th anniversary of the United Church Women, which we will help celebrate later. Charles Clarke honored in celebration of his 90th birthday Friends and family payed tribute to a dear friend at Prince Albert United Church Sunday afternoon. Rev. Charles Clarke celebrat- ing his 90th birthday was the est of honor and enthusiasti- cally thanked everyone for at- tending. With a beaming smile he thanked everyone for help- ing make his day a special one. Still quite spry and witty, Rev. Clarke told the Star pho- tographer not to make a big thing of his birthday as he liked to think of himself as being a youngJack Benny. Charles Clarke was born in Carbonnear, Newfoundland in 1902 and moved with his family to Cape Breton when he was a youngster. Later, as a young man, he moved to Toronto and entered the ministry, and in 1930 mar- ried Lila Heayn of Prince Al- bert, Ontario. Over the next 20 years, Rev. Clarke travelled and minis- tered throughout northern On- tario with the United Church Ministries. His last pulpit before retire- ment was at Dentonia Park in East York where he was the minister for about 16 years. During his term there he spent many of those years as a mem- «berofthe.Boar Although he has been retired as full time minister since he moved back to Prince Albert about 12 years ago, Rev. Clarke still finds time to conduct occa- sional services and performs wedding ceremonies when called upon. Rev. and Mrs. Clarke raised three daughters, Helen, Cathe- rine and Fern, who were all in attendance to honor their fa- ther's special 90th birthday. Rev. Clarke still finds time to travel and his daughters say he loves visitors to his home, where he quickly puts on a pot of tea when they arrive at the door. Earlier in tHe day, Rev. Clarke spoke to the congrega- tions at Prince Albert United Church and reminisced about his days as a minister in the north. The church basement was filled Sunday afternoon with people of all ages to pay tribute to this fine man.
