23 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 28, 1992 New booklet will help you "Discover Scugog" Discover Scugog! That's just what local residents and visitors to Scugog will be able to do this summer thanks to the help of a new booklet to be published listing the activities, events and attractions to see throughout the area. The 40 page booklet, entitled "Discover Scugog" is being published by the Port Perry Star. The last township brochure simply titled, "The Township of Scugog" was printed in 1987 and supplies have now been depleted. Last year'there, were very few available for the Township of Scugog Tourist Information Booth on Water St. where more than 1,400 people visited during the summer. The Star will be publishing 12,000 copies, with 6500 of these being distributed to readers of the Star while the other 5,500 copies will be divided between Scugog's Tourist Information Booth and other tourist information outlets throughout Durham Region. Advertisers in the booklet will also be supplied with copies for their use. In addition to information about Scugog, the booklet will provide details and information about local attractions and events taking place within a short drive of Port Perry. This section will explain some of the interesting places to see and things to do in other Durham Region communities. Local groups planning events this summer or fall can have their activities listed in this booklet free of charge by simply dropping off a list of the events, times, dates with a brief description to the Star office. A group of 27 of Scouting"s youngest mem- bers (aged 5-7) made the best of a winter afternoon with an action packed visit to the Durham Board of Educations, Nongquon Outdoor Education Centre. Under the capable leader- ship of "Rusty" Don Farquarson, the boys, their leaders and a number of har- dy parents, hiked on the Nonquon River, visited the centre's Museum and experi- mented with the art of snowshoeing, a tug of war and a hot dog roast over an open fire rounded out the afternoon's activities. Part of the Beaver promise, commits the boys to "help take care of the world." Saturday's visit to the Nonquon Centre, in addition to being a fun time with fnends, helped remind us all that we are all part of the natu- ral environment with a responsibility to "help take care of the world."
