In my window garden f have a beautiful pot of daffodils, a pot of pink hyacinths, a keepsake azalea blooming for the sixth time, an apple blossom amaryil- la, four blooms out and a pink African violet. What a mixture but Ilove flowers. I went to a lovely "tea party" last week at Epsom School. This. wag to honor our dearly loved vice-principal of the Green- bank-Epsom School, Mrs. Lin- da Fockler. Our children served a cup of tea and a slice of a huge cake baked and decorated by Mrs. Slack. There were lovely gifts for Linda from the parents, Greenbank School, all the grades. As of today, Mrs. Fockler will be at R. H. The children think he is Mr. Won- derful. Our four years with Mrs. Fockler have been happy ones and we wish her many more. When I returned home from the school the axe fell when I learned of the passing of a very good friend Hilda Bailey. She taught at several schools in- cluding Epsom, Scugog and Cornish. It was a shock many of us will never forget. We do ex- tend sympathy to her son Allen and sisters Greta and Laura. Never a day passed that she wasn't giving or doing some- thing for someone. Among her for priorities were Epsom-Utica Church and the upkeep of the cemeteries. Many, many con- 7 bye to vice-principal Linda Fockler at a party held in her honor on Jan. 28 at the school. The students did a variety of skits writ- ten especially for the occasion. Many of the people in atten- dance fought back tears while reminiscing about the past four- and-a-half years. Mrs. Fockler received many beautiful gifts, in- cluding this handcrafted lamp which sports the Epsom- Greenbank public schools crest. Mrs. Fockler took over the vice-principalship at R. H. Cornish Public School on Feb. 1. Her wish was that any money left over would be given to the church and cemetery board. We have a list of the donors and if anyone 'has been missed, a small dona- tion may be left with Vera Brown, Gail Kerry or myself anytime this week. Rod and Marlene Mckay and boys spent a weekend at Deer- hurst Lodge at Huntsville. Just a wee break before the market opens. On Saturday supper guests with Ruth Ashton were Allan and Joyce, Bradley, Paul and Gregory and friend Carol Wes- ton. Now Ruth is in Oshawa for a couple of days with Beth and Ken Catherwood. Marie and Earl Wilson have returned from a holiday in Flor- ida. They stayed with Ruth and Elmer Wislon at their home in Florida. They stopped for sup- per and a brief visit with the Lewchuks. That was a lovely picture of the Pine Ridge choir in the paper last week, particularly Betty and Marydale Tapscott. Last month the W. I. met at the library in Uxbridge. They wanted a complete picture of the humble beginnings of the Mechanics Institute when a few residents realized the knowl- edge contained in a few books. The library has grown to con- tain thousands of books, videos, special books for the blind or sight-impaired. There is the use of a computer system, a chil- dren's library, photocopier. The ladies went out with a new pros- pective and new appreciation of this wonderful facility. At the home of Doreen Bre- thourit was decided to have our spring W. I. luncheon April 8, 1992. They voted also to provide another vermiculture kit for the children at Joseph Gould as partofour business activities. Mark your calanders for Feb. 26. We meet at Pauline Snod- dons home for our family and Consumer Affairs meeting. Sympathy to the Ross Evans family. Barbara and Wendy at- tended the funeral of her uncle Lawrence Wearn in Bowman- ville on Friday. Laurence and Cora retired to Buckhorn after operating a garage in Enniskil- len for many years. Grant and Lynn Evans en- joyed a few days holiday last week. The Bride is the daughter of Cathy Langley of Lindsay and John Thompson of Bobcaygeon. The Bride's Maid of Honour was Susanne Kovacs of Lindsay and the Best Man was Jason Bucknell of Udora.
