Nestleton Afternoon UCW Unit Meets On Feb. 11, 1:30 p.m. 1992, a very interesting meeting was held at the attractive home of Barbara Weir, Nestleton, with eight present. We trust our members in the south are enjoying the Florida sunshine. The meeting opened with leader M. Cawker in the chair, assisted by secretary Barb Weir. A Valentine thought was given and a warm welcome extended. Roll Call: A card for a shut-in, etc, with stamp included. Minutes ap- proved as read by secretary and financial statement given by Neta Fish. A thank you note and a generous donation received during correspondence. An inspiring devotional was presented by our hostess Barb, with theme for Valentine's Day "Let's Think About Love" and scripture passages were read by Marion Hall and Jean Williams. Hymn "Come Sing Of A Wonderful Love" was sung, closing with prayer. Under business, the UCW will be busy catering Feb. 22, and The World Day of Prayer, and the an- nual Oshawa Presbyterial meeting coming up in March. The members are asked to save used stamps, Campbell soup labels, card fronts for Hospital Auxiliary, and the number of calls made on the sick, lonely and shut-ins. During the program, each member fashioned an ornamental topiary arrangement under the direction of Chris Davis and our hostess, and when finished the result was fabulous - "'a thing of beauty" to take home to enhance a table, window or wherever one would like to have it to show it off! A delicious lunch of assorted sand- wiches, relishes, cheese cake, and super tea or coffee, completed a great meeting. Jean Williams ex- pressed the appreciation for a lear- ning, enjoyable day to Chris Davis and Barb Weir! A lovely get-together for all. Best wishes to Wm. for a good year! Best Wishes Our very best wishes to Steve Bull of Port Perry, for good health soon since surgery. Also, to Marg Cornish our best wishes for better health in the near future. Cub and Beaver banquet Island > by Glenda Ranieri a | TTT The second Scugog Beavers and Cubs have been very active since the start of the year, and there appears to be no end in sight! Our leaders have planned many exciting activities for all the boys. The parent committee ran a very successful New Years Dance and all are to be thanked for all the hard work put into it and a big Thank You to all those who supported our group in attending. The Beavers had a very suc- cessful Winter Fun Day on the 9th of Feb. at Goreski's Resort on the Island. It was a blister- ing cold afternoon, but the boys were kept active enough I don't think most of them felt the cold. This was a district wide event attended by approximately 130 boys. First Port Perry invited our group in for a skate on the Ice Palace in Jan., and once again it was a well attended evening. The children and parents were able to skate for an hour under the lights on the biggest open airice palace in Ontario! Feb. 16, 1992 is the date set for celebrating our founder's birthday, Lord Baden Powell, and we'll be doing so with a com- bined service at the Scugog Is- land United Church. Scouts, Feb. 26 Cubs and Beavers will be joined by the Brownies and Sparks on this occasion. Immediately fol- lowing the service the children are to meet at the hall to be transported to the outdoor classroom on the Nonquon Riv- er. Mr. Don Farquharson will be taking the boys out on snow- shoes to see active beaver dams and have a nature walk. They will then return to the class to cook their own lunch over an open fire. . Pizza Delight will be our hosts on March 3 at which time the guys will be able to tour the kitchen and watch pizza being made and then sample a piece! What a Treat! Thanks to our hosts for allowing our group to tour your facility. On March 31, 1992 if you see a group of Beavers being marched into Police Headquar- ters in Oshawa don't fear the worst, they've been invited to tour the facility with possibly a chance to see the cells and firing range. Thisis a trip they should really enjoy. Our big event of the year should be the banquet set for Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1992. It has been a while since there has been a banquet on the Island, and it was decided that since our group has grown so much in the past few years we would like to bring back an old tradition. Work is well underway on this evening and I hope that the chil- dren and their parents enjoy it very much. y Ea a rieesr 1 27) J ) Y Y Free Advertising Ralph Ballard and Chic Carnegie of Homestead Furniture are seen here happily receiving their gift certificate for $250 of Free Advertising In the Port Perry Star from Star sales representative Jackie Metz.
