On Saturday morning, Chris Monsma recorded his second shutout of the weekend when we travelled to North Oshawa Arena to meet the Little N.H.L. Detroit Red Wings. Port Perry's goals came so fast and furiously that the score keeper missed a couple. Never- theless, the official score was still 8-0. : Scott Brownson opened the scor- ing with assists from Mike LeFort and John Burnett. Braden Tarbot- ton followed up with two on assists from Billy Carr, Jason Whitworth and Steven Wygerde. Jason Whit- worth scored next assisted by . Braden Tarbotton and Steven Wygerde. Next game is in Port on Friday against Stouffville. Overhead Doors lose Feb. 19 Exhibition Game with Bowmanville The Wednesday evening game was to be a good test for the Doormen as the Bowmanville team is still indulged in the playoffs. The Scugog team came to play and real- ly pressed throughout period one. Kris Wooton finally scored with 3:22 left in period one on a nice setup pass from Robert Gracie. In the second period Bowmanville came to life getting the tying goal at 8:49 but the Doormen were not to be out done. Trevor Smith made another right side rush and wristed a clean goal over the goalies Juveniles of playoff On Friday, Feb. 21, Port Perry Key Bar Juveniles began their se cond round of playoffs on a winning note with a decisive 6-2 victory over the visiting team from Ernestown. Port Perry opened the scoring early in the first period and never looked back. Mike Sorley got the in- itial goal following & great pass by defenseman Jody Wright. Jody followed with a goal of his own with Gerry Douma and Todd Taylor get- ting the assists. Todd Taylor then made it 3-0 after picking up a pass from Scott Menzies. Key Bar's lone goal in the second period was scored by John Ennis with assists going to Scott Porter and Jody Wright. Ernestown made it 4-2 by the end of the period but the outcome was never really in doubt. Goalie Ray Doyle made some key saves and by the third period Key Bar regained their composure and put two more past the visiting goaltender. Ethan Lavereau tucked the first one in the net following a super pass from Derek Fitzgerald. Greg Fitzgerald also picked up.an assist on the play. Scott Menzies top- ped it off with a pretty solo effort to make it 6-2 for Port Perry. Key Bar won the toss so their next home game will be Friday at 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, Key Bar travell- ed to Ernestown for the second game of the three out of five series. Ernestown looked like a complete- ly different team than the one Port played against on Friday as they defeated a Fas pice Key Bar team by a 4-2 margin. For a period and a half it looked to Bowmanville squad shoulder to restore the lead with 14 seconds left. + As the third period began it was obvious that Port was getting tired and Bowmanville continued to press hard. The tying goal came with on- ly 2:32 left on the clock. This lifted Bowmanville to skate harder still and they were again rewarded with only 1:22 left in the third. Unfortunately even with the goalie out for the sixth attacker Port couldn't pull enough. It was a good game, great goaltending Paul, real- ly missed those three guys who couldn't make the game. split pair matches like the game was going to be a repeat of the first one. Midway through the second period Port led by a score of 2-0, then the roof cav- ed in. Ernestown came up with two goals in two and a half minutes. They added another in the third and fn open net goal with seven seconds eft. The game was a wild and woolly one with Port Perry assessed 41 minutes in penalties and Ernestown 39. It appeared as though the Ernestown game plan was to rough up, intimidate and goad Key Bar in- to fights and penalties. The poor officiating helped the hosting team to achieve their goal. Port quit play- ing as a team, appeared to panic, and each man tried to do it himself. Port's goalie, Noel Lovering played well but the goaltender at the other end, with a combination of skill and plain luck, stopped every attack Port could muster. Now that Port knows that they have to do more than just show up to defeat this team, they will hopefully play a more disciplined game on Friday night. One bright light for Key Bar was the play of defenseman Steve Staniland who had a super game. Key Bar's two goals came from Mike Sorley and Greg Fitzgerald. Mikes was assisted by Steve Staniland and Greg's goal was unassisted. It was good to see more fan su port last Friday night, Hopefully we'll seé even more people out this Friday at 9 p.m. The game promises to be a dandy. Your support does make a difference!
