Peter Hvidsten Port Perry Star Dagmar Ski club's more daring skiers took part in the annual "puddle jump- ing" contest last Saturday. Skiers and snowboarders tested their balancing skills as they attempted to skim across 30 feet of open water after speeding down a snow covered hill. Many contestants, when their skis left the snow and hit water, were rewarded with a cold dip in the three- foot deep, man-made pond at the bottom of the snow covered slope. It was a fun afternoon for contestants and onlookers alike as over 47 attempted the feat. They came down the slopes dressed in shorts, scuba gear, wigs, masks and garbage bags, much to the delight of the large crowd. fully across the pond on their first attempt, had the run shortened and were given a second shot at the title. Winners of this year's "puddle jumping" event were: 1. Simon Head, who is a lift operator at Dagmar and 2. Steve Gornick, a ski- patroller and Derek Swain who was awarded the prize for "best wipeout." Police Briefs A break and enter in Black- stock has netted the thieves ap- proximately $6,000 worth of personal items. According to Durham Region- al Police, the break-in occurred sometime over the weekend. Entry was gained through the rear door of the house and ap- proximately $6,000 worth of jewelry and compact discs were taken. Port Perry break-in" A large quantity of airtools were taken during a break-in at a workshopin Port Perry. A Durham Regional Police of- ficial said the undetermined amount of tools were taken dur- ing the break-in which was re- ported to police at approximate- ly 12:20 p.m. at a shop on Taylor Drive in Port Perry. "Ghost Stories", performed by Tara Goldberg, Carla McMillan and Sara Hawker of Port Perry High School was selected to compete in the regional show- caseon April 14-16. The group participated in the drama competition in Pickering on March 7.
